Certified Home Inspection class series offered at WNC beginning Jan. 8

With the arrival of a new year there is an opportunity to start a new career in home inspection at Western Nevada College. Certified Home Inspection courses will be offered on the Carson City campus starting on Monday, Jan. 8, helping prepare an individual for what is necessary to excel in the business.

Tunes, treks, and trivia: Things to do on Tuesday

Ease into the new year with something fun. Trivia junkies have two options for showing off their smarts: DJ Trivia at the Fox Brewpub and the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz at Sassafras are both free to play and open to all ages. Muscle Powered offers two trail hikes on Tuesday. Today take an easy walk along the Mexican Ditch area in the morning, or opt for something more strenuous along the Linear Ditch this evening. Songwriter Canyon White leads a jam at Living the Good Life: strum along or just sit back and enjoy the music.

Trevor and Tessa Rotoli have been operating Just Brew It, Carson City’s local brewing supply store, since 2010.

The husband and wife team have expanded the business over the years with more space, product, and added sales of craft beer and a four-tap bar.

It’s finally here, the last weekend of 2017. It’s fairly quiet around town, until Sunday night, that is. Today, Muscle Powered is leading a five-mile half-day hike along Prison Hill. Take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, and join them. The Carson Nugget is hosting three nights of comedy this weekend: catch Myles Weber on the stage tonight. Head’s up. Galaxy Theater usually plays a movie from the past on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week, we get treated to the Christmas Classic, Die Hard. You won’t want to miss that.

Carson City Winter Read-A-Thon kickoff features books, live music and more

The Carson City Library welcomes the community as it launches the inaugural nationwide Winter Reading Challenge beginning today, Friday, Dec. 22, through Jan. 5, 2018.

The Read-A-Thon kick-off event will be held Friday from 4-6 p.m. at the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 850 E William St, Carson City. The presentation will include songs, stories, puppets, and activities. Also, you will be able to register for the Winter Read-A-Thon.

Carson City man jailed for suspicion of meth trafficking and sales

A 66-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of felony drug trafficking and sales after a traffic stop for speeding led to the recovery of 15.7 grams of methamphetamine, a Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team deputy said.

Carson City weather update: High wind warning, up to 4 inches of snow on valley floors

A High Wind Warning is underway for the region as Carson City braces for a fairly quick moving winter storm that is expected to bring 50 to 60 mph wind gusts followed by accumulating snow along the valley floors and 8 to 10 inches above 7,000 feet.

Pop-up locations, activities underway as refresh at Carson City Library continues

Contractors are hard at work in the Carson City Library, tearing out carpet to replace the flooring and paint the walls. While the library will not reopen until late January, limited services will be available during the closure.

We're Number 2, or 3 - But That's Not Good

Nevada was hit hardest among the 50 states by the Great Recession of 2007-09 and was the slowest to recover. It was the last state to see its total employment levels return to pre-recession figures – even though our population growth had already resumed.

Since nearly everyone agrees that high employment is good, you’d think a public policy change that increases employment is something politicians would embrace. From experience, we’re skeptical, but we offer here evidence for just such a change: reforming state occupation licensing laws.

Adults have a hard choice to make: the monthly downtown wine walk and the Holiday with a Hero Pub Crawl both take place today, and I’m not sure I’d recommend attempting both.
