Carson City Library aims for 90,000 reader minutes in Winter Read-A-Thon challenge

The Carson City Library will participate in the inaugural nationwide Winter Reading Challenge from Dec. 22, 2017 through Jan. 5, 2018. We challenge you to read (or listen) to books for one hour a day to help us win $10,000. Our goal is for Carson City to read 90,000 minutes over a two-week span, that’s a mere hour a day each.

Downtown Carson City ice skating rink will not return this winter

Following eight seasons of skating and in need of approximately $100,000 worth of new equipment and repair, the Arlington Square Ice Rink in downtown Carson City will not be in operation this winter, according to city officials.

Candy Cane Lane at the Carson Valley Inn is a custom outdoor drive-thru Christmas light display. ‘Nevada Christmas’ is a private home on Chaparral Court, just off Stephanie Way, and puts the holly jollies into the holiday.

Two were arrested Friday and face multiple felony charges including maintaining a drug house, providing drugs to a minor, possession of drugs and child endangerment, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City deputies make reckless driving, disorderly conduct and domestic battery arrests

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, driving with an expired license, minor consuming alcohol, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Earn yourself a second helping of pie by participating in the annual Turkey Trot. In Carson City, you’ll start the 5K or 8K run at the Governor’s Mansion on Mountain Street. If you’re in the Carson Valley, head to Minden Park for their inaugural 5K.

Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. I made the decision to put all of the parade related events into a separate list for a few reasons: one, this list would be way too long otherwise; two, Halloween fun is plentiful all weekend long; and three, I want my list to be as easy to read as possible. State’s Namesake Guide Dog Puppy Says Farewell at Nevada Day Race

Two new art exhibits have appeared over the weekend: the annual Nevada Day Show at the Nevada Artists Association gallery, and ‘Inspirations’ at the Community Development Building, across from City Hall on Proctor.
