Carson City man faces battery with a deadly weapon, probation violation charges

A 27-year-old man was arrested Monday after allegedly attacking his girlfriend’s father, sending him to the hospital for injuries to his face and forehead, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy said.

Justin Paul Marsola faces charges of felony battery with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor probation violation.

According to the arrest report, the suspect was asked to leave a Roop Street residence. The victim stated to the investigating deputy at the hospital that he went into the upstairs of the residence to ask the man to leave. Marsala said that he would, the arrest report states.

Marsola then went into the closet and bent over to grab something, the victim told CCSO. As Marsola came out of the closet he turned toward him and hit the victim in the face with an object, the arrest report states.

The victim stated that it knocked him over backwards causing him to fall onto the bed. The victim said the suspect then got on top of him and began hitting him in the face with a closed fist while holding a knife in his hand, according to the arrest report.

A knife found on the ground in the bedroom was a folding knife with an index finger knuckle grip similar to brass knuckles, a CCSO deputy said.

The deputy described the injuries to the victim's face as two large lacerations between his eyes and a large bump on the left side of his forehead. Total bail: $33,000.

In other arrests:
— A 42-year-old transient man was arrested Monday, 11:05 p.m., in the 2900 block of Lompa Lane for felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor ex-felon failure to register, and violation of alternative sentence.

A Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to an apartment complex on reports of a suspicious person, later identified as Joshua Lee.

The responding deputy said he located Lee on the second floor walkway talking at the wall and observed he was unable to keep his eyes open or maintain is balance. A records search indicated Lee was on Alternative Sentencing for possession and use of drugs. Lee consented to a search of his person which yielded a brown substance wrapped in a clear wrapper presumably identified as heroin.

Dispatch advised Lee was an ex-felon, and he advised he had not been at that registered address for nearly a year. Total bail: $5,742.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 12:46 a.m., in the 20 block of College Parkway for felony failure of annual verification as a sex offender.

A Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to inspect a suspicious vehicle and located it on the east side of a parking lot running with the suspect later identified as Kyle Parker Hewit inside sleeping, the arrest report states.

The license plate was ran through dispatch and returned with a sexual offender hit for failure register annually as a sex offender. Total bail: $5,000.

— A 36-year-old Dayton woman was arrested Monday, 11:53 a.m., in the 3000 block of Hwy 50 E. for misdemeanor embezzlement.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a convenience store on a report of an employee embezzling money from the store, a Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy said.

Store management stated she had embezzled $420 at that time. According to the arrest report, the suspect agreed to speak with deputies without an attorney present and admitted to embezzling the money. When asked, she admitted to possibly embezzling more than the $420. Bail: $1,137.

— A 39-year-old transient woman was arrested Monday, 8 a.m., for misdemeanor trespassing. The suspect was asked by management to leave a downtown Carson City casino after arriving four times and refusing to leave. Management wanted her arrested for trespassing, the arrest report states. Bail: $242.

— A 25-year-old transient man was arrested Monday, 2:50 p.m., at the Carson City Jail after being transported from Las Vegas by a Highway Patrol trooper on a misdemeanor Carson Township Justice Court warrant for contempt of court, failure to appear with a $3,000 cash only bail.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: Courtesy of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: On May 3, 2024 at approximately 1430 hours, Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with Central Lyon County, Carson City and Storey County Fire personnel to the area of 34 Newman Ln. for a report of motorhome on fire. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire had spread and multiple other abandoned vehicles caught fire as well. No one was hurt or injured during the incident. The incident is currently under investigation, which is being conducted by the Nevada State Fire Marshall’s Division.

UPDATE 2:38 p.m.: Firefighters from Storey are also now responding.

UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: Multiple vehicles on the property are engulfed in flame.

Around 2:15 p.m. a fire was reported at 34 Newman Lane in Mound House.

Firefighters from Carson City and Lyon County are enroute to the scene.

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, a student reported they saw a weapon. The incident was investigated and there was no weapon found. The lockdown has now been lifted and students are leaving the school.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: Update 05-03-24 at 1:15 p.m.
One student has reported an alleged weapon sighting. It has not been corroborated, but school officials and the sheriff’s office are investigating out an abundance of caution.

UPDATE 12:50 p.m.: The following update was provided by the district:

Carson High School was put on lockdown this afternoon around 12:15 p.m. No person was injured. There is an active situation being investigated in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. We will provide more information as it becomes known. The school is secure. Do not go to the school. No entrances will be permitted at time. The district will provide updates every 30 minutes. Expect the next update at 1:15 p.m.

Carson High School is currently on a lockdown as of 12:40 p.m. Friday, but there has been no incident reported according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Two School Resource Officers are on scene investigating why the alarm went off.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.
