Doug 'Mac the Naw' Busey's Lake Tahoe and Sierra mid-March fishing report

Hello fellow anglers, spring has sprang in our local area. With our temperatures this weekend to reach into the 70 degree range, we are all getting the fishing bug. Renee and I set out on another fishing adventure through Alpine County last weekend. This report will reflect on our adventures.

SILVER LAKE:
The lake is completely thawed out, and many anglers have been fishing along the shore. The Kit Carson Resort is scheduled to open mid April this year. Anglers have been using Kastmaster lures and power bait. A few fish were caught in the 8 to 13 inch range.

CAPLES LAKE:
The lake was thawed out from just past the dam to half way up to the spillway area. many anglers were shore fishing along the highway. We saw on angler on his pontoon float tube powered by and electric motor trolling the ice line.
As of last Sunday the lake was a third thawed, with our warming temperatures there will be more shore area open by this weekend. The water level is rising and was at a level of 53 feet. That is about five feet up on the resort ramp. I spoke to John from the resort, he told me they may open a month earlier than usual this year. I will keep you updated as to when the boat ramp will open.

LAKE TAHOE:
A continuing report of limits of average sized Mackinaw Trout being caught on silver flasher blades and minnows, trolled at depths of 100-300 feet on the west side of the lake near Homewood, Calif.

CARSON RIVERS - CALIFORNIA:
Will open to fishing on April 25, 2015. The flow as of last week were up and running perfect.
I spoke to the manager of the Carson River resort, they are gearing up for a great year. There will be some new faces at the resort this year. And a few new additions  that I will cover in a future article.
The Alpine Fish and Game are set up to keep the rivers planted this year with even more fish than last year. I have not been able to reach the CDFW  to see if they will be planting the area this year.
If you want to get in your reservations set up at the Carson River Resort, you can call 530-694-2229.

CARSON RIVER-NEVADA:
The NDOW has planted the the river in Douglas County Lyon County and Carson County with 400 pounds of rainbow trout. This should be a good weekend to get out and wet a line.

RED LAKE:
We saw two groups of anglers ice fishing last Sunday. I would recommend to stay off the lake. There was open water showing on the north end of the lake and light blue areas in the middle. For obvious reasons we did not stop and venture out on the ice to see what they were using.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR;
I counted 3 float tubers, 2 full sized boats and 14 vehicles last Sunday. We fished for a couple hours using power bait and various lures. We received no bites on our side. The lake level is holding and the algae is starting to grow on the bottom.
I spoke to a fellow angler that reported his lady friend caught a 4 pound rainbow a week before using a spoon.
The campground is scheduled to open on May 1, hopefully they will open earlier.

TOPAZ LAKE:
The lake level has come up and many anglers have been using the Douglas County ramp. I have not received and reports for the last two weeks on the Topaz Lodge derby. The derby will continue until April 12th, where at 7pm the drawing and prizes will be awarded at 7pm.
For more information call the Topaz Lodge at 775-266-3338.

ALPINE COUNTY ROAD PASSES:
As of this week Monitor Pass is open, Ebbetts Pass is still closed.

NEVADA FISH PLANTS BY NDOW:
Carson River EF and upper river Douglas County, Carson River Lyon County, Carson River Carson County, Mitch Pond, Baily Pond, Walker River EF Lyon County.

FREE FISHING DAYS:
California- July 4 and Sept. 5. Good luck on your next fishing adventure.
