Woman identified in Sunday shooting in Dayton, faces second degree murder charge
Submitted by editor on Tue, 12/02/2014 - 4:27pmA woman faces a second-degree murder charge in the late Sunday night shooting death of her husband at their Dayton home.
Kristyn Verdun has been booked into Lyon County Jail awaiting a hearing on charges. Details as to the possible motive haven't been released.
Dayton man dies in shooting, woman in custody

Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of Gordon Lane in Dayton at 10:56 p.m. for a report of a man who had been shot by his wife.

NHP: Wadsworth driver, passenger charged In fatal Lyon County hit and run
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 11/24/2014 - 12:01pmTwo Wadsworth women have been charged in the Nov. 18 hit and run crash that killed a woman who was a pedestrian walking along the road on State Route 427 in Lyon County, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Liann Christy, 21, has been charged with felony DUI causing death and leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Katrina E. Paddy, 22, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson on Monday.

Man wanted on felony battery charge arrested at Carson City restaurant
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 11/16/2014 - 2:22pmA Carson City man wanted on a felony charge of battery causing substantial bodily harm in which the victim suffered severe eye damage was taken into custody Saturday night.
Rico Wiggins, 27, was arrested at around 9:25 p.m. at a restaurant in the 3800 block of South Carson Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. A 28-year-old man, Bryan Gaudette, was also arrested on suspicion of harboring a fugitive, a felony.
Carson City public safety agencies stage shooting scenario exercise
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 11/15/2014 - 1:23pmThe first of two “active assailant response” exercises was staged Saturday at the Carson City Courthouse. The scenario involved two shooters in camouflage who walked through the three story courthouse, shooting city employees and members of the public in their path as they went courtroom to courtroom.
The shooters were taken out with gunfire by Department of Alternative Sentencing officers and Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies within two minutes of the scenario, but not after leaving a bloody path of fatally and critically injured victims.
Strap on the belts: Nevada law enforcement 'Click it or Ticket' campaign underway
Submitted by editor on Sat, 11/15/2014 - 8:14amNevada’s Joining Forces multi-county law enforcement program is launching its “Click it or Ticket” education effort alongside the nationwide effort to encourage motorists to strap on their seat belts.
Between Nov. 13 and Dec. 2, law enforcement officers will fan out across Nevada in search of motorists who are not buckled up. Although seat belt use is not a primary offense in Nevada, seat belts are proven to be a primary factor in decreasing fatalities in a crash.
Fighters Against Child Abuse Annual Christmas Drive

All donations stay in The Greater Carson Area, and 100% of all donations will be used to benefit an abused, neglected, or at-risk child.
FACA is seeking new clothing, socks, underwear, new coats, new toys, and Gift Cards to provide tangible goods to abused children, CASA, Austin's House Child Abuse Emergency Shelter, and Ventana Sierra, an organization that provides housing for aged-out Foster kids.

Carson City sheriff's weekend arrest report
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 11/09/2014 - 5:27pmA 23-year-old transient, Kyle William Krites, was arrested Nov. 6, 8:30 p.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street on a felony warrant issued out of Lyon County, Oct. 7, 2014, alleging statutory sexual seduction, a class C felony, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said. He was being held without bail awaiting a hearing.

While the parade itself was calm for the most part, there was a significant uptick in alcohol and drug related arrests after the parade ended and when afternoon turned to evening.
Carson City firefighters knock down August Drive house fire; respond to several calls since noon

Firefighters responded late Sunday morning to a house fire in the 4000 block of August Drive. The fire started in the kitchen and may have went into the attic, said Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi. No one was home at the time and a fire investigator has been called to the scene.
Cooperative Extension offers ‘Agriculture in Times of Drought’ workshops

Carson City sheriff's detectives are looking for a teenager who is believed to have run away and is asking the public for help. Dakota Maiden, 15, was last seen on Oct. 20, 2014.
Dakota left his residence on Woodside Drive and failed to show up for school, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Detective Steve Olson.

AG: Lyon County deputy forced female inmate sex acts

Jerry Peek, 33, was booked Tuesday in the Washoe County jail on $750,000 bail.
Letter: Former Carson City DA supports Woodbury

His letter briefly praises Krueger for his work experience and attention to crime victims. He then proceeds to criticize the other candidate for D.A., Jason Woodbury, through ad hominem attacks upon the people who support his election.

Registration open as Poetry Out Loud celebrates 10th Anniversary

Carson City man arrested on felony child abuse, domestic battery charges
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 10/05/2014 - 7:39pmA 34-year-old Carson City man was jailed Saturday on suspicion of felony child abuse, domestic battery and three gross misdemeanor counts of child endangerment, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Joshua Michel Summerfield is being held on $63,314 bail. He was arrested in Lyon County and transported back to Carson City where he was booked.
