One flown by Care Flight in Highway 50 crash in Dayton
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 12/06/2014 - 10:27pmA two-car crash Saturday on Highway 50 in Dayton sent one person to the hospital via Care Flight with non-life threatening injuries, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The late afternoon accident tied up traffic on the highway for more than an hour. It happened on Highway 50, east of mile marker 6 and involved two vehicles, a 2002 Saturn View and a 2012 Ford Focus, said NHP Trooper Tappan Cornmesser.

On the right side of the photo is the Nevada Legislative Building,and a large statue of Kit Carson. The finely detailed statue with Kit Carson riding on his horse was created by famed Carson City Artist Buckeye Blake.
Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi to retire
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/05/2014 - 1:42pmCarson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi announced that he'll retire in early February of 2015, said Carson City Manager Nick Marano. Giomi is only the fourth paid fire chief in the city's history. He was hired Nov. 23, 1983 and became chief in 2005. He has been with the fire department for 31 years.
Giomi has accepted a position with Nevada Health Centers as their Director of Facilities and Emergency Preparedness. Nevada Health Centers is a federally qualified health center in Nevada and the largest primary care provider for the underserved and/or geographically isolated in the State.

Carson City sheriff's log: Deputies make DUI, domestic battery arrests
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/05/2014 - 10:10amA 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 1:14 a.m. in the 1700 block of East William Street on suspicion of DUI and speeding, both misdemeanors. According to the arrest report, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy clocked the driver going 52 mph in a 35 mph zone on East William Street.
The officer activated his emergency lights and the driver would not brake to slow down, the report states. The officer then activated his siren and the vehicle continued heading eastbound, pulling into a parking lot in the 1700 block of East William Street.
Holidays are open season for thieves, sheriff's office advises taking preventative measures

While many of us will be shopping for the best deal on Christmas presents criminals are planning ways of how to take advantage of us while we are distracted. Many of the tips provided involve common sense and can be practiced year round.
We are a very generous community and can fall victim to several scams that are ongoing, not just in Carson City but across the nation.

The walkabouts take place very month except in January, and provide constituents an open forum for expressing their ideas for improving the community, as well as expressing any concerns.
This is representative government in action and Abowd said, is one of the most effective ways to stay in touch with her constituents.
“It helps me do a better job,” she said.
Horvath named president of Brewery Arts Center Board of Directors

Chris Bayer, who was the president, stepped down from the board. The BAC has faced serious financial hardships this year, in which its executive director, John Shelton, was laid off. His family members, who also worked for the BAC, left when Shelton was let go Aug. 26.

The Black Box is a hip intimate theater area in BAC. Cherie has helped create a "jazzy bar lounge", designed specifically for this event.
Woman identified in Sunday shooting in Dayton, faces second degree murder charge

Kristyn Verdun has been booked into Lyon County Jail awaiting a hearing on charges. Details as to the possible motive haven't been released.

First there were the haunting Celtic airs of kilted bagpipe player Sean Cummings, accompanied by harpist Anne Roos.
Care Flight called after pedestrian struck by car at Adams and Carson Street
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 12/01/2014 - 8:10pmUPDATE: Care Flight was called Monday night to an accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Adams and Carson Street. The call to dispatch came in at 8:05 p.m. The 37-year-old adult male victim suffered life threatening injuries.
Arriving Carson City firefighters gave aid to the victim and transported him to the Carson City Airport where a Care Flight air ambulance flew him to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno.
UNR winter commencement class to receive honors at Dec. 6 ceremony

A total of 1,475 degrees – 1,094 bachelor’s degrees and 381 advanced degrees or certificates (master’s and doctoral degrees) – will be awarded.
Graduating students and faculty leaders will assemble at 8 a.m., and the ceremony procession will begin at 8:15 a.m. University President Marc Johnson will deliver welcoming remarks.
The University awarded 1,461 degrees at the December 2013 ceremony, and a total of 3,712 degrees were granted last academic year.

Nearly 100 string players, including Carson City public, private, and home-schooled students, and students from surrounding areas, will perform several pieces, from classics to folk and fiddle tunes, from Baroque music by Arcangelo Corelli to jazz tunes by Duke Ellington. Admission is free.

Jason Brown spent a recent afternoon shopping at Rocking and Rolling in downtown Carson City. He bought an old-spoon necklace and some blue-lace agate and smoky quartz for his children’s rock collection. “She has all the cool ones, and she polishes them herself,” he said.
WNC Scholarship Workshop for Student Vets on Dec. 11

The two-hour workshop is being presented by the Veterans Resource Center on Thursday, Dec. 11, 1 p.m. It will assist veterans in applying for WNC scholarships through the WNC Foundation Scholarship program, as well as two $500 scholarships provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America.
