In announcing its list the website notes Nevada is dotted with many places for art lovers to explore, including traditional galleries to more unique spaces. From Reno to Elko the state boasts a wide range of art from a host of talented individuals, including locals and international artists.

Carson High School student raises more than $1,000 for local cancer patients
Submitted by editor on Wed, 12/17/2014 - 3:41pmKimberly Parsons, a Carson High School senior and dedicated member of the Key Club, organized and implemented a fundraising campaign for area cancer patients as her senior project. In doing so, Parsons sold cancer awareness themed t-shirts, wristbands, and baked goods throughout the campaign, raising a total of $1,245.
Parsons presented a check to the Carson Tahoe Health Foundation in Carson City on Tuesday, generously donating proceeds to benefit area cancer patient support which is then distributed through the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center.
Multi-faith New Years’ Eve Service

“Multi-faith New Years’ Eve Service”, coordinated by religious statesman Rajan Zed and hosted by Reno Buddhist Center (RBC), will include prayers by Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i and Native American leaders.
Pedestrian taken by Care Flight after being struck by pipe in vehicle along Dayton Valley Road
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 12/15/2014 - 4:26pmA woman was flown to Renown Medical Center Monday afternoon following an accident involving a landscaping vehicle and a pedestrian, a Lyon County sheriff’s sergeant said.
The vehicle was traveling westbound on Dayton Valley Road and apparently had a pipe that was hanging from the side, said Sgt. Dan Lynch. The female pedestrian was walking eastbound. The pipe struck the woman as it drove by, hitting her in the head. The landscaping vehicle didn't stop, said Lynch.
Carson city sheriff's arrest log: several DUI arrests made this weekend
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 12/14/2014 - 1:48pmA Mill Valley, Calif., man was arrested at 3:03 a.m. Sunday at East Musser at Carson Street on suspicion of DUI, speeding and driving with a suspended or revoked license, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
The vehicle was stopped after being clocked going 50 mph in a 35 and 48 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to the arrest report. The driver was contacted where he identified himself with a California driver’s license that came back suspended.
Care Flight called to injury accident at Menlo and Green Court

A Care Flight air ambulance has been ordered. At least two vehicles are involved in the accident, called into dispatch at around 11:30 p.m.
Arriving Carson City deputies on scene report at least one woman in her 20s suffered a head injury.
Both vehicles had moderate damage, according to deputies.
Carson City emergency crews respond to vehicle accident with pedestrian on Highway 50 East
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/12/2014 - 5:23pmUPDATE: Care Flight was ordered and Carson City fire and ambulance responded tonight to an accident involving a pedestrian in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East at Fairview and Gordon. The victim, an adult female pedestrian, was conscious and moving on the pavement when rescue crews found her but was suffering from back and neck injuries.
The call came into dispatch at 5:18 p.m. Carson City sheriff's deputies rerouted traffic around the accident scene.
Consort Canzona 'Lessons and Carols' Concerts Canceled for Dec. 13 and 15
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 12/12/2014 - 5:22pmThe Consort Canzona "Lessons and Carols" holiday concerts originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon (Dec. 13 at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville) and Monday night (Dec. 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Gardnerville) have to be canceled.
Too many of the performers are sick, including the conductor, Gary Schwartz. The group is affiliated with the Carson City Symphony, which WILL be having its 31st Annual "Holiday Treat" Concert as scheduled on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center.
Snow Biking at Red Lake

Acting on a tip that there was good snow cover with several miles of snow machine tracks up near Carson Pass, I loaded the bike up in the car and headed up to Red Lake on Highway 88.

Sleigh Rides at Sand Harbor State Park through holiday season

The unique handcrafted sleighs, drawn by mighty Belgian draft horses, accommodate four to six people and can be equipped with wheels to operate when there is no snow. Warm blankets and hot chocolate are provided, and caroling is encouraged.
The park restaurant will be open weekends for holiday drinks and snacks, with special meal and sleigh-ride packages available.

Multiple raffle prizes are up for grabs with raffle tickets costing $1 each or 25 tickets for $20. Money raised from the showing will go to support the ski team.
Carson Victory Rollers holds derby Sunday to benefit Food For Thought

Two Care Flight air ambulances land after vehicle crash on Highway 50 near V&T bridge

What we know is two Care Flight helicopters landed, according to NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. One person was taken by ground ambulance, according to Central Lyon County Fire District. Their conditions are not known at this time.

New for 2014, advance tickets are on sale to allow priority boarding on a scheduled day. The historic and picturesque V&T Railway steam locomotive No. 25 pulls Santa Train, departing Carson City’s Wabuska Depot at the corner of Fairview Drive and Carson Street.
Forest Service accepting reservations for 2015 Winter Trek program at Lake Tahoe

Teachers may reserve a spot by calling the Forest Service at 530-543-2694, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Winter Trek begins Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, and continues through March 26, 2015, weather permitting. Field trips are generally three hours long and are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Carson City Save Mart stores to match customer donations Friday to fight local hunger

Share. Care" program, for a total dollar-for-dollar matching grant of up to $5,000 for the day.
This initiative could not come at a more critical time for local food banks. Already stretched heading into the holiday season, recent cuts to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps) significantly dented the food budgets of thousands of local, low-income households.
UNR seeks donors for Lake Tahoe fire camera system
Submitted by editor on Mon, 12/08/2014 - 10:15amThe success of the pilot program for fire cameras at Lake Tahoe has prompted the University of Nevada, Reno’s Nevada Seismological Laboratory to pursue funding to build out its fire camera network that rings the majestic mile-high lake.
“We’ve seen the system avert potentially large fires this summer at Tahoe, even with its minimal presence,” Graham Kent, director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, said of the prototype system with its four cameras. “It makes sense to build this system out now to help protect the basin from devastating fires.”
