St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City to host Dec. 6 Art Faire on the Comstock

The region's finest Nevada-made art will be featured Saturday, Dec. 6 at St. Mary’s Art Center in Virginia City with its first Artists and Artisans Art Faire on the Comstock.
Not only will all galleries be filled with art, the entire building will be full of local artists and creative folk from all over the Comstock region, showing and selling their work. The faire will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The art works range in style, medium, size and price from $5 to $8,000, so there will be something for everyone’s holiday shopping budget.
“We are so excited to have this number of local creative, contemporary artists in the building at one time,” said Frances Melhop executive director of the Art Center. “This group of artists have been hand selected and were invited for their talent and superb quality of work. We have artists in all mediums and at all stages of their careers, from emerging young students to established local masters. I plan to do my entire Christmas shopping at the Art Center on the 6th.”
St Mary’s former artists in residence have donated beautiful works for a wonderful fund-raising silent auction, including a large-scale abstract painting by internationally acclaimed artist, Nes Lerpa from Denmark.
Jake Houston and the Tin Can String Band will be playing, and there will be beer, wine and whiskey sours for sale. Catering will be a festive treat extravaganza by Core at the Cider Factory, Virginia City’s own fine dining restaurant.
From 4 to 5 p.m. there will be mulled wine and s’mores on the front lawn to warm you up before you head up to the “Christmas on the Comstock” parade on C Street, Virginia City.

St. Mary’s Art and Retreat Center is located in the historic Virginia City Hospital, 55 North R Street, opened in 1876 and was operated by the Daughters of Charity. The spacious four-floor building closed in the 1940s and was reopened in 1964 as an art center. Ample rooms provide gallery space, rooms for art workshops, and accommodations for visiting artists.
“We hope this is going to become a yearly event, a kind of Art Faire-Christmas party marking the beginning of the holiday season” said Molly Burnet, President of the Board of Trustees “The historic site alone is worth the visit, and I believe this event will attract a great new audience of visitors who want to support local artists and find hand crafted, one of a kind gifts for their loved ones”
