Douglas County man faces first degree murder charge in death of 2-month-old infant

Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Man jailed on drug and weapon charges
Submitted by editor on Thu, 01/15/2015 - 10:32amA 42-year-old Carson City man was arrested on drug and weapon charges early Thursday following a traffic stop on Highway 50 East, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, an officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Highway 50 East and Lompa Lane for a rear license plate light not working. The deputy made contact with the driver, Edward William Tucker, who presented a Nevada driver’s license.

Carson Tahoe Health and Sierra Surgery Hospital awarded Healthcare Quality Accreditation

The accreditation process is voluntary and includes a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey administered by CIHQ.
Assemblyman O'Neill hosts Common Core curriculum forum Tuesday in Carson City
Submitted by editor on Mon, 01/12/2015 - 9:52amNewly elected Assemblyman Phillip "PK" O’Neill, R-Carson City, will host a forum Tuesday in Carson City at the Legislative Building for lawmakers and citizens. The forum is being led by opponents of Common Core State Standards.
Citizens for Sound Academic Standards welcomes the public to participate in the program which it says it will present both sides of the issue. The Common Core State Standards Initiative is an educational initiative in the United States that details what K-12 students should know in English language arts and mathematics at the end of each grade.

Two-month old Infant dies, father located in Sacramento and taken into custody
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 01/10/2015 - 10:29amA two-month old infant girl was taken off of life support at 12:48 a.m. Saturday morning, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
The agency is investigating a child abuse case involving a suspect, Trent Getty, the father of the girl, who was wanted by Douglas County investigators, and found in Sacramento, Calif., at a Greyhound Bus depo. He was taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Verl Kately Means

Verl was born on November 8, 1914 in Joplin, Missouri, one of three children born to Howard and Janie May Means.
Avalanche training Jan. 13-16 at Mt. Rose Summit Highway

Training objectives and stations will cover transceiver and RECCO search, proper probe line set up and execution, snow pit/snow pack information and a search dog demonstration.
