One flown by Care Flight in Highway 50 crash in Dayton
A two-car crash Saturday on Highway 50 in Dayton sent one person to the hospital via Care Flight with non-life threatening injuries, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The late afternoon accident tied up traffic on the highway for more than an hour. It happened on Highway 50, east of mile marker 6 and involved two vehicles, a 2002 Saturn View and a 2012 Ford Focus, said NHP Trooper Tappan Cornmesser.
According to the preliminary accident investigation, the male adult driver of the Saturn was traveling eastbound on Highway 50. The driver told NHP troopers that he was either fatigued or fell asleep and started to veer to the right. He then steered hard to the left into the left bound lane of traffic, striking the Ford Focus with a glancing blow, said Trooper Cornmesser.
The crash impact caused the Saturn to rotate to the right where it came to rest on the roof in the center lane. The vehicle airbag deployed. The driver was taken by Care Flight where he sustained injuries to his shoulder, said Trooper Cornmesser.
The white Ford Focus came to rest in the westbound lane and blocked traffic. There was airbag deployment with the driver sustaining some scrapes and bruises. He was treated and released at the scene. He checked himself into the emergency room later. Both cars were totaled, said Cornmesser, who was called to the scene at 4:46 p.m.
The crash was in a low-speed area and was not a direct head-on, he added.
