Carson City sheriff's log: Deputies make DUI, domestic battery arrests
A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 1:14 a.m. in the 1700 block of East William Street on suspicion of DUI and speeding, both misdemeanors. According to the arrest report, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy clocked the driver going 52 mph in a 35 mph zone on East William Street.
The officer activated his emergency lights and the driver would not brake to slow down, the report states. The officer then activated his siren and the vehicle continued heading eastbound, pulling into a parking lot in the 1700 block of East William Street.
The driver appeared grossly intoxicated, had thick, slurred speech and had an odor of alcohol. The officer asked the man why he did not stop. The man told the officer he is new to the area and did not see the police lights, the arrest report states.
He submitted to four field sobriety tests and failed all tests. He was taken into custody. He submitted two breath samples that showed him to be over the legal limit, the arrest report states. Bail: $1,269.
— A 67-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 4 p.m. in the 3000 block of Imperial Way on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers met with the victim who said she was struck by the suspect with a closed fist on her right eye and facial cheek area. The victim said the man needed to go to jail for what he did to her. The arresting officer observed a red abrasion to her right facial cheek area. A photo was taken of the injury.
Officers then spoke with the suspect who said he and the woman were in a verbal dispute only. The man said at no time did he batter the woman. Both had been consuming alcohol. Based on the information and evidence of suspected injury, the man was arrested. Bail $3,137.
— A 36-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 11:29 a.m. in the area of Imperial and Gardengate Way on suspicion of DUI drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, an officer observed a vehicle with its window down emitting a strong odor of marijuana. The officer observed a female driver, a male passenger and a child in the rear passenger seat.
A traffic stop was initiated and the officer spoke with the driver, in which there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. The officer asked the woman if she had been using marijuana and she said she had smoked earlier in the day. She submitted to a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and failed the tests, the arrest report states.
Based on signs and symptoms and admitting she had smoked earlier the officer arrested the woman. During inventory of the vehicle, the officer located a clear plastic tube with marijuana tucked in between the driver seat and the center console. In the woman’s purse the officer found a metal makeshift pipe. At jail the woman submitted two blood tests that were booked into evidence. Bail: $3,011.
— A 29-year-old man was arrested Thursday, 12:15 p.m. on a charge of petit larceny at a South Carson Street store. According to the arrest report, the crime happened on Nov. 28 when a store employee observed the man remove a sweat shirt from a clothes hanger, put the shirt on, removed the sticker and exited without paying. The suspect had been arrested on Nov. 29 for a different crime at another business. The officer spoke with the man after he was read his Miranda rights, and he confessed to stealing the sweatshirt, the arrest report states. Bail: $347.
Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
