Care Flight called after pedestrian struck by car at Adams and Carson Street
UPDATE: Care Flight was called Monday night to an accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Adams and Carson Street. The call to dispatch came in at 8:05 p.m. The 37-year-old adult male victim suffered life threatening injuries.
Arriving Carson City firefighters gave aid to the victim and transported him to the Carson City Airport where a Care Flight air ambulance flew him to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno.
The vehicle involved is said to be a White Lincoln Town Car. The female driver of the car had a juvenile in the vehicle and an ambulance was called for breathing issues, according to dispatch.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the accident investigation thus far appears to be the vehicle driver did not see the pedestrian as they were walking across the street. The male victim suffered serious injuries. Furlong said it is frustrating to see these kinds of accidents, noting the fatal crash on Nov. 11 in which Carson City resident Mike Shields was killed by a motorcycle as he was crossing Stewart and Telegraph streets.
"What we are seeing as with this tonight is that motorists are not seeing pedestrians and pedestrians are walking through crosswalks thinking they are safe," said Furlong. "It is dark on these streets. Motorists and pedestrians must pay attention. Pedestrians can't assume that if they look both ways they are safe."
The Nevada Highway Patrol will conduct the accident investigation.
