Carson Valley Inn’s sixth summer concert announcement is smooth.

Kenny G, a smooth jazz superstar will perform in TJ’s Corral on Saturday, June 8. Tickets — $59 and $69 — go on sale Wednesday, April 10.

Carson Valley Golf Course, located at 1027 Riverview Drive in Gardnerville, is hosting Junior Golf Clinics beginning April 17 at either 4 pm or 5:15 pm. Attendees will pick one time and attend once a week for six weeks.

The 2018/2019 Para Sport season wrapped up this past weekend in a thrilling two days of competition, on American home ice in Lake Placid, NY.

For the Americans, Steven Jacobo established himself early as the frontrunner for Team USA, closing out the season with an eighth place finish on his home track. He rallied for the third fastest time of the fourth and final heat to show his promise in the sport.

Since 1875 The Kentucky Derby has been a celebration of Southern culture and an icon of Americana. The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada in Carson City has joined in on that celebration for 11 years making it one of the biggest fundraisers for the organization.

The Carson City chapter of Ducks Unlimited is hosting its annual banquet April 6 at Fuji Park Exhibit Hall. The banquet will feature high-quality firearms and art work, collector’s knife sets, carved decoys, and K2 coolers. The event is family friendly with special youth activities and drawings.

CARSON CITY — Museums from around the state will converge on the Nevada State Museum in Carson City on Tuesday, March 19 for the 2019 Nevada Museum Showcase.

Join us at the 2019 Blue Jean Ball, Carson Valley Medical Center Hospital Foundation’s second annual event to support local healthcare services in the Carson Valley. It will be an evening of a little bit of fundraising and a lot of fun!

Guests will enjoy the rustic elegance of the historic barn setting at the unique Jacobs Family Berry Farm (www.jacobsberries.com) in Gardnerville, and the evening will include a delicious dinner by CoCoMoes Catering, silent auction and live entertainment by Locked N’ Loaded. Carson Valley Senior Living and Memory Care donated 50 percent of the community’s total move-in fees from November and December 2018 to the Wounded Warrior Project. The amount totaled $3,750.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following September 11, 2001.

Not only is Friday the first day of March in this 2019 calendar year but it is also the end of the work week. While much of the Sierra is under a Winter Storm Warning, strong wind gusts in Carson City and throughout much of Western Nevada has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Advisory for the region through 10 p.m. Wednesday.

World Hearing Day is March 3 every year, held to help raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world.

In recognition of the day, Carson Valley Medical Center is offering free hearing evaluations Friday, March 1 and Friday, March 8 through its Occupational Health Clinic in Minden at 897 Ironwood Drive.

Approximately 20 percent of Americans, or 48 million, report some degree of hearing loss. At age 65, the numbers grow to 33 percent. Additionally, nearly 15 percent of school-age children have some degree of hearing loss.

Multiple power outages are being reported early Monday afternoon around Carson City and Douglas County due to a weather system that prompted a High Wind Warning earlier this morning for much of the region. Meanwhile, wind gusts flipped two vehicles on I-580 north of Carson City in Washoe Valley late Monday morning causing some traffic delays.

CARSON CITY — The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada received sweatshirts for every member of their Carson City and Carson Valley locations thanks to local donors Phil and Penny Wright, longtime Carson Valley residents, NV Energy and Carson Dermatology; and new 20 winter coats for children identified as in need in Douglas County from the East Fork Professional Firefighters Association.

February storms that saturated the Carson City and Lake Tahoe regions with rain and snow won't be forgotten anytime soon, with more unsettled weather ahead this week as the month comes to a close, according to the National Weather Service.

This Saturday is all about film appreciation around the area. The Carson City International Film Festival wraps up today inside the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, while the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival occurs at CVIC Hall in Minden.

Another cold low pressure system will bring more snow and snow showers Wednesday and Thursday to the Carson City region, with lake effect snow bands again possible Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Sierra Lutheran High School invites the community to attend the 17th Annual Gifts of Grace Dinner-Auction on Saturday, March 23, at 5:30 p.m. at the Carson Valley Inn to raise important resources for the school’s Tuition Assistance Fund.

Public Works crews from Carson City and the Nevada Department of Transportation were busy Monday morning digging out, sanding and plowing roads from all the lake effect snow that happened Sunday.

Another round of moderate snowfall around Carson City, Carson Valley and Reno this Sunday has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for the region.

For those weary from all the snow around Carson City so far this month, about the only good news to share is that your weekend is here and there's plenty to do indoors if winter recreation isn't your thing.

From workshops to live music, a skate demo at The WheelHouse and even a special "Caturday Night Out" at the Carson Nugget to help homeless felines in the area, there are places to go around Carson City where you can keep warm, stay dry and have fun!

Please join us for a 5-mile round-trip snowshoe trek in the Clear Creek watershed area just three miles west of Carson City!

We will hike on the Clear Creek Connector Trail that intersects with the longer Clear Creek Trail. Both trails built by Carson Valley Trails Association. Meet 8:00 am at Hwy 50 Park-and-ride just west of Hwy 50/US395 interchange. We will carpool three miles to the Golf Course Drive parking area near the trailhead. Dogs are not allowed on this hike.
