Dispatch reports that a reporting party advised juveniles intentionally started the small fire, less than a foot in diameter, in a construction area. The fire was quickly extinguished by arriving firefighters.

Submitted by editor on Mon, 05/01/2017 - 7:38pmUPDATE 9:45PM: A bird's nest near a light fixture caused a small fire Monday night at Empire Elementary School, a Carson City Battalion Chief said. Firefighters cut a portion of the roof open to determine if the fire had spread into the interior attic portion of the building. There was no further extension of fire in the roof, said Carson City Fire District Battalion Chief Dan Albee. The incident was turned over to school officials at 9:34 p.m.

Larry Hicks, 74, told the deputy he had been in the canyon for a couple of days and was suffering from severe dehydration.

Two were taken by Care Flight with non-life threatening injuries and one, also with non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to the hospital.
