Carson City firefighters called to small light fixture fire at Empire Elementary
UPDATE 9:45PM: A bird's nest near a light fixture caused a small fire Monday night at Empire Elementary School, a Carson City Battalion Chief said. Firefighters cut a portion of the roof open to determine if the fire had spread into the interior attic portion of the building. There was no further extension of fire in the roof, said Carson City Fire District Battalion Chief Dan Albee. The incident was turned over to school officials at 9:34 p.m.

Carson City Fire Department was called Monday night to a small fire at Empire Elementary School in the 1200 block of Monte Rosa.
At around 8:30 p.m. Carson City dispatch received a call of a light bulb that had caught on fire. Carson City firefighters arrived on scene and reported the fire had been contained to a light fixture.
However at around 9 p.m. firefighters looked to see if there was a possible second fire on the premises and began investigating. At 9:17 p.m. the battalion chief called the fire a "working incident." At 9:20 p.m. firefighters made access to the building's rooftop.
