Carson City Sheriff: Missing man now safe after found severely dehydrated in Voltaire Canyon
UPDATE 12:14AM: A man reported missing Saturday morning was found by a sheriff's deputy late Saturday night in Voltaire Canyon, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
Larry Hicks, 74, told the deputy he had been in the canyon for a couple of days and was suffering from severe dehydration. Carson City Fire Department was dispatched to the staging area and transported him to the hospital. Search and Rescue were to bring Hicks's vehicle out of the canyon Sunday morning.
Hicks was located by a South Lake Tahoe man who was 4-wheel driving in the area. He had saw Hicks earlier in the day only to realize later from news reports that the man was missing, said Furlong. The South Lake Tahoe man gave the ordinances and approximates of where he had saw Hicks and the search began from there.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office requested the Department of Public Safety issue a Silver Alert for a missing Carson City senior citizen at about 3:02 p.m. Saturday.
Larry Hicks, 74, was reported missing Saturday morning after he failed to return to his Idaho Street home late the night of April 21.
Family members reported that he left his home abruptly in a gold 2003 Jeep Rubicon with a black hard top.
Hicks left his home at approximately 8 p.m., leaving behind his essential medicines, wallet/driver’s license, and cell phone.
They have stated there was no precipitating event, he just got into the car and left.
With only one-third of a tank of gas and no money, family members believe he could not have gone far, but may be in the eastern mountains of Carson or Douglas Counties.
According to family, Hicks is an avid four-wheel driver and enjoys the rugged terrain of the desert areas. If stranded, it is believed that Hicks would not have the physical capabilities to recover.
Mr. Hicks was recently diagnosed with a serious medical infliction and his medications are essential; therefore, he is determined to be at risk of harm.
Ground and Air Search and Rescue teams from Carson City combed the rural terrains of Carson and Douglas Counties today, but were unable to locate Hicks or his vehicle. Search efforts will be suspended as of sundown.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the assistance of rural outdoors enthusiasts who may be in the mountainous areas to be alert to Hicks’ vehicle.
Mr. Hicks has no access to weapons, and is not believed to be a threat to others, but may be in critical need of medical assistance.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts should not attempt to move him, but contact the Sheriff’s Office at 887-COPS (2677) or thru Emergency 9-1-1.
