Historic Adele’s building is being offered for free to whoever wants to move and restore it
The historic Carson City building that was Cafe at Adele’s at the corner of North Carson and John Street was set for demolition, until it was offered to whoever wants it, so long as they move it from the property to its new home by March 1, 2020.
“Today, another chapter closed as the planning department passed the site plan for the sale of the property that hosted 41 years of Adele’s and the legacy of Paul, Adele, Karen and I,” said Adele’s owner, Charlie Abowd in a Facebook post. “An angel came in the form of Frank Lepori who has offered to give the historic building to anyone who wants to restore it for free. Karen and I could not be happier with the outcome of today’s Carson City Planning Commission meeting.”
According to Lee Plemel, Community Development director, the Planning Commission approved a plan to replace the building, which allows the demolition or removal of the building.
The building is offered to anyone who can take it and move it. The deadline is March 1. It would be at the new owner's expense to move it. The building is offered for free, said Plemel.
If interested in the building, Plemel said they can contact the Planning Division Office office at 887-2180.
Adele’s was forced to shut down after a March fire caused smoke damage throughout the building. The Planning Commission heard a proposal to turn the property into a parking lot for the gas station next door to the property, which caused a public outcry.
However, it seems, the building could get a new chance at life if someone is willing to move it and restore it to its previous incarnation.
