2024 Nevada Day Show Call to Artists

The Nevada Artists Association Gallery has announced the Nevada Day Show call to artists.

Enter date: Deliver work Saturday, October 19, 2024
Time: 9AM to 12PM (No late entries)
Location: Nevada Artist Association Art Gallery, 449 W. King Street, Carson City
Important Dates:

— Show dates open: October 19-December 22, 2024
— Gallery hours: 12-4PM, Tuesday-Sunday
— Holiday break closures: Nov. 28 and Dec. 23, 2024 through Jan. 3, 2025
— Judging Sunday morning (closed to public) Oct. 20
— Reception: Nov. 3, 2024, 2-4 PM Refreshments served, everyone is invited
— Unsold entries should be picked up 9-12PM, Jan. 4, 2025

NAA Marketing
Send photos of each entry to naacarsoncity@gmail.com anytime up to October 19. Give file names for photographs of your entries that include the title of the piece and your name. For example: River in the Desert by Jack Spratt. This helps NAA market your work during the run of the show and when there are sales of your work.

Entries
Any new member joining on entry day will be considered a member, pay member fee rates, and will be a member through 2025. Membership information can be found at:

The “Judged Show” Entry Form and Show Rules and Regulations can be found at:

http://nevadaartists.org/shows/ If you don’t have access to a computer there will be a limited number of entry forms available at show change.

— Entry Fees: Limit to three entries per person. Must be 13 years or older.
— Members - 1st piece $10, 2nd piece $5, 3rd piece $5.
— Non-Members - 1st piece $20, 2nd piece $10, 3rd piece $10.

All entries intended to be hung must have a wire for hanging with taped ends and felt or plastic bumpers where the entry will come in contact with the wall. Saw tooth hangers will not be accepted. Your name, the title of the entry and the price must be on the back of each entry and must be the same information as on the entry form for each piece. The Show Committee reserves the right to reject entries not in compliance with the rules and regulations. Please write legibly.

All entries MUST be for sale. Unless sold, entries must remain for the duration of the show. NAA collects a 25% commission on entries sold.

Judging and Awards
Judging will take place on Sunday, October 20 by three judges. Winners will be announced on social media, through emails and in CarsonNow. Cash awards and ribbons will be awarded for Best of Show, Spirit of Nevada Award, the Pat Holub Award and to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category. Honorable Mentions will receive ribbons.

Following the theme is optional but the “Spirit of Nevada” award will be theme-based.

There must be at least 3 entries in a category for judging. Any category not receiving three entries will be combined into the “Other” category and if there are more than three, will be judged as a category. The public will be invited to vote for People’s Choice for the duration of the show and the winner will be awarded cash and a ribbon. The winning People’s Choice entry will be displayed for sale through the New Year’s Show if not sold during the Nevada Day Show.

A 51-year-old Reno woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of DUI second, expired registration and open container, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums and AAUW Capital (NV) Branch, will present four free election forums featuring candidates and ballot question information on October 7, 9, 14, and 16 beginning at 6 pm each night at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 pm.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office reports that a juvenile is in custody for allegedly making terroristic threats involving students at Carson Middle School via social media.

Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team forest thinning projects are underway and scheduled to continue over the next several weeks, conditions and weather permitting. UPDATE 4:30PM: Four very small fires, amounting to less than a tenth of an acre, were knocked down within 10 minutes of arrival Sunday along the hillside near Lone Mountain Cemetery, said Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Mason.

The cause is under investigation. No structures were damaged. CCFD has determined the fires to be human caused. At this time, the matter is under investigation with CCFD and the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Three engines and a rescue were assigned to the attack. East Fork Fire assisted for protection on the south side of the city, while Truckee Meadows Fire stood by for protection on the north side of the city.

UPDATE 3:11PM: Some fire engines have cleared the scene, a good sign CCFD has control of the fire. We have left messages and will update as the battalion chief becomes available.

Man can be awful cruel to man, and from time immemorial we continue to come up with new ways to exact our cruelty. The first novel ambush that caught my attention was described in the Odyssey, where Greek soldiers were able to take the city of Troy by hiding inside a giant horse parked at the city gates as an offering to the goddess Athena.

Local artist Colleen Reynolds, owner of CRME Exploring Watercolor, and Denise Mack, Executive Director of the Capital City CIRCLES Initiative, came together to present the donation proceeds check from the 4th Annual Watercolor Carson City fundraising event.

A new Lake Tahoe Regional Evacuation Plan has been developed through a collaboration between Lake Tahoe fire chiefs, law enforcement agencies, and emergency management personnel. The plan, released earlier this month, was created using a diverse team of experts from two states and five counties, using experiences gained during past major wildfires.
