Carson Valley Virtual Turkey Trot, open mic night, craft show, live music and more highlight weekend events around Carson City

Heading into the weekend and inching closer to Thanksgiving, there’s a number of activities around the Carson City region. The fourth annual Carson Valley Turkey Trot begins Friday and will be held virtually throughout the month of November. Combined with live music and Open Mic Night at A to Zen, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to wear a mask and practice safe social distancing.

Christmas Craft Show at the Carson Mall. 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 1313 S. Carson St. Come and join us for the annual craft show. We will have jewelry, crafts clothes, and other things for everyone on your list!!

Nevada Artists Association Nevada Day Show. 12 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. Stop by the Nevada Artists Association now to see the Nevada Day show, hosting art made from local artists through the end of December. Open every day 12-4 p.m. except Mondays and Thanksgiving Day at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery, 449 West King Street, Carson City, NV.

Dance Class at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio. 3 to 4 p.m. at 315 N. Carson St. Join us for some dancing! No partner needed. Learn dance steps to all Ballroom and Latin dances. A Mix of mini dance routines and line dances. Improve turns and balance.

Parents' Night Out at Hilltop Community Church. 5 to 8 p.m. at 3588 Romans Rd. We know it's hard to get out together as a couple- on November 13th, drop your kids off and go out to dinner.

RoddyRich to Perform at Bella Vita Bistro. 5 to 8 p.m. at 1304 S. Stewart St. Richy Rich will be playing out in our Mall area this Friday. Please make reservations or if you have any questions please call us at 775-515-4300.

Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop. 6 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson St. Open Mic is back at A to Zen tonight! Come and support local musicians from all over and enjoy a night of music.

Great Holiday Giveaway at the Carson Nugget. 6 to 9 p.m. at 507 N. Carson St. Giveaways are held Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays! Earn tickets to win as you play with your Winners Card.

Ryan Reichard at the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City. 7 to 10 p.m. at 76 North C Street. Live music will be jammin’ Virginia City Friday night at the Red Dog Saloon! It kicks off with a solo acoustic performance by Ryan Reichard.

Friday Night Karaoke at the Whiskey Tavern. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 3481 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Come hang out with the Whiskey Tavern and J and M Productions as we sing the night away every Friday! Must be at least 21 years old.

Saturday, November 14

Work Day at Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park, volunteers needed. 9 a.m. Meet at the course parking lot at Flint Drive and Rifle Range Road. There will be planned tasks for different levels of physical ability. All volunteers will receive a Carson Ridge Shield Decal. This will be the beginning of tracking volunteer hours by the newly formed Club, working with the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department. Please bring water, closed toe sturdy footwear, gloves and mask. Social distancing measures apply.

Stained Glass Mountains Workshop at HelloHandmade. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1754 Ironwood Dr. in Minden. If you are local you have probably heard of these 3 mountain peaks that are viewable from our valley. Design your own 3 1/2″ x 6″ mountain scene by choosing from unlimited color combinations. Stained glass has many steps and takes precision and patience, this is a full 3+ hour class. You are essentially building a puzzle where all the pieces need to fit together. We recommend you bring a snack and something to drink.

Turkey Shoot at Carson Valley Golf Course. 10 a.m. at 1027 Riverview Dr. in Gardnerville. The Turkey Shoot will be a best of 15 holes competition. A $40 buy in includes a round of golf with a carts, food and prizes!

Santa Pictures at the Carson Mall. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1313 S. Carson St. We are so excited to have Santa coming to visit all the good boys, girls and their family! Below is Santa’s current schedule. We are highly encouraging everybody that wants to see Santa, do so sooner than later.

Carson City Library Hosts Virtual Program. 11 a.m. via Zoom. Join us for a new program, Girls Who Code! Gain future job skills, promote STEM interest, foster camaraderie and inspire confidence, all while learning the basics of coding! For upper elementary students grades 3-5.

Coin Press Demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum. 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 401 N. Carson St. Demonstration of Coin Press No. 1 in the Historic Carson City Mint Building. Admission is $8 for adults and free for members and children age 17 and under.

Live Music at Virginia City's Red Dog Saloon. 7 to 11 p.m. at 76 North C Street. Come on out to Virginia City and catch No Drama at the Red Dog Saloon. Grab some food, listen to some tunes and enjoy a night of No Drama (pun intended). See you there and bring the family.

Raiders Chapter Game Watch at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar. 1 p.m. at 301 N. Carson St. We definitely are starting to get our winning ways back or at least not finding ways to loose. We have a streak going again but this time it is on the positive side of things. Make sure keep the faith alive for the season and our boys as we face the Broncos this next Sunday.

Camp GOTR (Girls on the Run) is coming to Carson City for the second year in a row! Camp GOTR will be a week-long, half-day summer camp from 8 AM- 12 PM at the Carson City Community Center the week of August 5th- August 9th.

Douglas County officials have announced that construction will begin soon on the first phase of the Muller Parkway Project. UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.

Dayton Elementary School in Lyon County was honored Wednesday along 13 other schools including Carson High in Carson City as a Nevada Purple Star School.

Schools receiving the designation have committed to supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected children and their families.
