The offerings fall under four different programs: Family Fun Saturday and the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series, both occurring online, as well as Coin Press No. 1 demonstrations and Curator’s Corner programming, both available in-person at the museum. Coach 17 is the rail car that was present at Promontory Summit, Utah, in 1869, when the nation’s first transcontinental railroad was completed. It is part of the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s collection.

This will be the first time the museum has operated Coin Press No. 1 since it closed temporarily in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.
Nevada State Museum continues 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint with weekend activities for kids

As part of its celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint — Mint 150 — the museum is hosting Kids Minting Days on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8-9. Children 17 and younger are admitted for free and each child will receive a commemorative copper medallion memorializing the Mint’s 150th anniversary.

Just as it did 150 years ago, the Mint’s Coin Press No. 1 pressed silver coins, complete with the famous “CC” mint mark.
