Among today's featured events are the Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness campaign Kickoff at Red’s Old 395 Grill, art showings, a candidate luncheon and Monday night football. Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has ordered flags to half-staff this Monday, Oct. 1 from sunrise to sunset as a mark of respect and in remembrance of the victims of #1October. #VegasStronger

— Assembly candidate to be Carson City Democrats luncheon speaker. 11:30 a.m. Autumn Zemke, Democratic candidate for Assembly District 40, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Ms. Zemke will speak to the many issues that distinguish her candidacy from that of her Republican opponent, incumbent Assemblyman Al Kramer. This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, at Carson City's Round Table Pizza, on Retail Drive just off College Parkway. An all-you-can-eat buffet lunch is available. All are welcome.
— Think Pink breast cancer awareness campaign to kick off in Carson City at Red's Old 395. 5 p.m. Carson Tahoe Health will celebrate its 17th annual Think Pink kick-off for breast cancer awareness on Monday, Oct. 1. Red’s Old 395 Grill in Carson City will once again host the event. From 5 to 7 p.m. the event is free to attend and individuals wearing a Carson Tahoe Think Pink T-shirt, the current one or from any year, will receive free appetizers courtesy of Red’s. Short-sleeved t-shirts can be purchased for a $10 suggested donation and long-sleeved for $15 at various CTH locations and at the event. This year’s raffle grand prize is $500 cash thanks to our generous sponsor Tahoe Carson Radiology. 100 percent of proceeds from all Think Pink T-shirts, specialty drinks, and raffle sales will go to the Carson Tahoe Foundation for local breast cancer education and support. Red's Old 395 Grill is at 1055 S Carson St, Carson City.
— High Sierra Swing Dance Club weekly West Coast swing dance/lesson. 5:30 p.m. Come join us every Monday evening at Carson Lanes, 4400 Snyder Ave, 775-883-2606, for a friendly, casual, fun night of dancing to DJ music: West Coast Swing, Country 2step, Nigh Club, and even a few latin tunes. No partner needed. Beginner lessons 5:30 pm, Intermediate lessons 6:30 pm, $8 each, free open dancing 7:30 to 10:00pm. For more information about this event or our club call Idie: 775-443-8870.

— Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California Native TANF Program launch Winter Coat Drive. The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California Native TANF Program is hosting a winter coat drive Oct. 1 through Nov. 2, 2018. Please donate new or gently used, clean coats, hats, gloves and snow pants. Items will be distributed to families in need on Nov. 8, 2018 at 2310 South Carson St. Suite 1 Carson City or the Douglas County Washoe Tribe of NV & CA Native TANF Program office, 1248 Waterloo Ln, Gardnerville.
— Student Art Exhibition: The Wind Calls, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) announces it’s exhibition, The Wind Calls featuring nine University of Nevada, Reno, students’ work. The free exhibition is available to the public through October 9, 2018, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – noon and 1:00 – 4:00 pm. It is held at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St., Carson City. The Wind Calls includes work by Mahedi Anjuman, Nicki Bracco, Mark Combs, Teal Francis, Hannah Huntley, Gwaylon Leaf, Frances Melhop, Ally Messer, and Carla Miller. The artists used a wide variety of art media including mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and photography to make their art and comments on contemporary life and society.
— The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its exhibition, "Jenny Raven: The Creative Growth Years 1979 - 1984" with artwork by artist Jenny Raven in the city’s Community Center Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public through October 18, 2018. The Sierra Room is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Nevada Artists Association opens Carson City Autumn art show. The Nevada Artists Association opened its annual "Autumn" exhibit will run through Oct. 19, 2018. More than 100 local and regional artists make up the non-profit NAA which operates the gallery located at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center. In addition to the Autumn Show, two association members will be featured, with art work displayed on the coveted back wall of the gallery, artist Cindy Whitaker and photographer Fred Howland will be exhibiting their finest. The Gallery is located at 449 West King Street. It is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go to www.NevadaArtists.org for more information.
