Here’s what’s happening:
— Daily through September, Muscle Powered is holding Membership drive to recruit new members. All new and renewing members in the month of September will be entered in a drawing to win a Gregory Hiking Day Pack.
Muscle Powered works to make Carson City healthier for all citizens and safer and more accessible for bicycling and walking through education and advocacy, the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian friendly infrastructure, and developing and maintaining recreational trails throughout the city. Muscle Powered is also responsible for organized weekly walks, hikes and bike rides, on and off road, throughout Carson City. Go here to learn more and sign up.
— Thursday Hike to Secret Harbor, Lake Tahoe hosted by Muscle Powered, 8 a.m. Come out and join us for free hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet in the Highway 50 Park and Ride where we will carpool up to the trailhead. All hikes are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more. Water and sturdy or athletic shoes are required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended. Some trails are dirt and others are paved.
— Student Art Exhibition: The Wind Calls, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) announces it’s exhibition, The Wind Calls featuring nine University of Nevada, Reno, students’ work. The free exhibition is available to the public through October 9, 2018, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – noon and 1:00 – 4:00 pm. It is held at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St., Carson City. The Wind Calls includes work by Mahedi Anjuman, Nicki Bracco, Mark Combs, Teal Francis, Hannah Huntley, Gwaylon Leaf, Frances Melhop, Ally Messer, and Carla Miller. The artists used a wide variety of art media including mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and photography to make their art and comments on contemporary life and society.
— Cardio and Strength Connection class offered at Carson Tahoe, 9 a.m. If you've had problems with your heart, or have diabetes, a healthy lifestyle is the best way to get you feeling like you should. We've created Cardio & Strength Connection to help you develop a healthy exercise program in a safe and comfortable environment.
Monthly cost is $10. Thursday classes are held at Carson Tahoe (1470 Medical Pkwy, Suite 250)from 10 - 11 AM.
— Storey and Lyon Community Coalition meeting. 9 a.m. The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties gathers for a public meeting featuring guest speakers and discussion of regional issues on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. This month’s breakfast meeting takes place on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Silver Springs Community Center in the Lahontan meeting room at 2945 Fort Churchill Street.
— The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its exhibition, "Jenny Raven: The Creative Growth Years 1979 - 1984" with artwork by artist Jenny Raven in the city’s Community Center Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public through October 18, 2018. The Sierra Room is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents “Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth" at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition, with art by 17 artists, will be in the gallery Monday through Friday until Sept. 27, 2018. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting of Visiting Angels of Carson City, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The event is hosted by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. Refreshments served at Battle Born Restaurant, 318 N. Carson St. Enjoy refreshments, wine and appetizers and meet the Visiting Angels Carson City caregivers.
— Carson area's C.W. Bayer Presents Songs that Defined the West, 6 p.m. C.W. Bayer will discuss and play the songs that defined the far West and the 49ers. Thursday, September 13, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 US Highway 395 N, Gardnerville. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., lecture and musical presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. $3.00 at the Door / DCHS Members Free. Info at 775-782-2555.
— Carson City group offers support, education to parents with children who have addictions, 6:30 p.m. PAL (Parents of Addicted Loved Ones) is a support group of parents helping parents. The group meets Thursday nights at the Carson City Fire Station 51 meeting room, 777 S Stewart St.
— Live Music at Glen Eagle Restaurant, starting at 6:30 p.m., 3700 N. Carson St.
— Live Music with Ev Mussleman at the Feisty Goat Pub, 6:30 p.m., 1881 East Long St,, Carson City.
— Live music at Living the Good Life Nightclub, Bisto-Lounge with Greg Austin, 7 p.m., 1480 N Carson St., Carson City.
