Boot Fire swells to 3,000 acres, forces Highway 395 closure in Mono County
UPDATE 3:17PM: Road closures now span US 395 beginning at Holbrook Junction (north of Topaz Lake) to Bridgeport, and CA SR 108 is closed from US 395 to the Tuolumne County line. Evacuations have expanded from the Bootleg, Chris Flat and Sonora Bridge Campgrounds to now include the Leavitt Meadows Pack Station and Campground, the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center.

UPDATE 10:15AM: The Boot Fire in Mono County that forced the closure of Highway 395 on Tuesday afternoon continues to grow with a size of 3,000 acres and zero containment, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Evacuations remain in place for the Bootleg, Chris Flat and Sonora Bridge Campgrounds. Road closures remain in place for US 395 from the north end of the junction of State Route 108 Sonora Pass to the south end of Coleville. The fire is situated around 20 miles north of Bridgeport.
Structures are threatened in the Burchum Flats area east of Walker Canyon, and Burchum Flats Road remains closed. Follow Caltrans District 9 for road information.
The fire transitioned to Stephenson’s Type 3 Incident Management Team at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. A Type 2 Team has been ordered.
200 personnel are on the fire with additional personnel on the way.
The fire burned actively all night and in all directions. Aviation and ground forces continue working the fire, which is estimated at 3,000 acres and 0 containment. No structures have been lost and no injuries have occurred. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Highway 395 was closed Tuesday afternoon between Walker and Bridgeport in Mono County, Calif., south of Douglas County in Nevada due to a fire on the west side of Walker Canyon, according to the Mono County Sheriff's Office.
Bootleg Campground has also been evacuated. Caltrans says Highway 395 is closed from the north end of Bridgeport to the south end of Coleville and at the junction of Highway 395 and State Route 108 Sonora Pass. There is no estimated time of reopening.
The traveling public is advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
