Quad County, Carson City COVID-19 weekly update: 9 deaths, 570 new cases, 171 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is providing the Quad County community with a weekly update for the week starting August 19 and ending August 25, 2021.

COVID-19 Case Update
For the week, CCHHS is reporting 9 deaths, 570 new cases, and 171 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 15,339, with 13,591 recoveries and 252 deaths; 1,496 cases remain active.

Carson City had 3 deaths, 186 new cases, and 47 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Carson City is 29 new cases per day with a 16.6% test positivity rate.

Douglas County had 2 deaths, 162 new cases, and 41 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Douglas County is 16 new cases per day with a 22.5% test positivity rate.

Lyon County had 4 deaths, 217 new cases, and 80 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Lyon County is 24 new cases per day with a 23.2% test positivity rate.

Storey County had 5 new cases and 2 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Storey County is 0 new cases per day with a 16.7% test positivity rate.

COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of August 25, 2021, approximately 178,128 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered by Quad-County providers. CCHHS has administered 70,020 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Approximately 78,118 Quad-County residents have completed vaccination (received both doses of a 2-dose series vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna or received the single dose Janssen vaccine) and 86,272 have initiated it (received the first dose of a 2-dose series such as Pfizer or Moderna).

In Carson City, 30,379 residents have been completely vaccinated and 33,312 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 60.7% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Douglas County, 23,393 residents have been completely vaccinated and 25,460 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 53.0% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Lyon County, 23,549 residents have been completely vaccinated and 26,725 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 47.0% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Storey County, 707 residents have been completely vaccinated and 775 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 17.3% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

Upcoming CCHHS Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
All vaccines are available on a walk-in basis at every event for first, second, and third doses for those who are immunocompromised. COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card or proof of first dose is required for second dose or third dose.

A Carson City man was found with what is suspected to be methamphetamine after deputies arrested him on a felony warrant.

The Carson City Senior Center in coordination with Subaru held a 'Stuff the Subaru' canned food drive Saturday at Save-Mart Carson City as part of Subaru's 'Share the Love' campaign.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday afternoon to a vehicle accident involving a 10-year-old pedestrian near the intersection of Silver Sage and Colorado streets.

With cold weather having settled into the region, five churches in Carson City have partnered this season to operate nightly winter warming shelters for the area's homeless. These volunteer-staffed shelters will rotate monthly, each providing a warm place to sleep for the homeless and their pets.
