Stuff the Subaru canned food drive at Save-Mart benefits local Meals on Wheels program
The Carson City Senior Center in coordination with Subaru held a 'Stuff the Subaru' canned food drive Saturday at Save-Mart Carson City as part of Subaru's 'Share the Love' campaign.
"It's been great," said Courtney Warner, Executive Director of the Carson City Senior Center. "We've received more cash and groceries than expected for Meals on Wheels," she added.
The trunk of the Subaru was becoming quite full as shoppers were bringing donations from home as well as picking up extra items for Meals on Wheels while shopping at Save-Mart. Others were placing cash in the jar by the Subaru as they passed by.
"Whats really terrific about this is people recognize Meals on Wheels as a program that really contributes to the community," said Carson City Senior Center Business Manager, Michael Salogga.
The groceries are used to supplement the meals that are already provided to local seniors and all cash received is put towards making more meals, according to Warner.
The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations of non-perishable food items and monetary contributions are always accepted. The center is located at 911 Beverly Dr. and can be reached by phone at 775-883-0703.
