Capital City prepares for Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival August 5-21
Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City present the 13th Annual Jazz & Beyond Festival. It features 17 days of Music and Art at multiple venues in Carson City, August 5-21.
"Jazz & Beyond is a homegrown event celebrating the talent of our region and relying on many local music fans who donate their time and effort," said committee co-chair David Bugli, President of the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc. "Volunteers, sponsors, and advertisers help us make the event one of the best in the area, and keep most performances admission free."
Festival organizers are seeking additional business and private sponsors, and program advertisers. For information on rates for sponsorship and program ads, call the Mile High Jazz Band at 883-4154.
The festival opens on Friday, August 5 at the historic Bliss mansion, corner Mountain and Robinson Streets. An art show and sale on the porch at 4:00 p.m. features artists from the Capital City Arts Initiative and Nevada Artists Association. Music by the Triple Treble flute trio begins at 4:30 p.m. Miss Dixie, the Vintage Art Bus from Fallon will be there, too. A performance by Cherie and John Shipley with Take This band will follow on the lawn at 6:30 p.m.
Sunday, August 7 will feature a Day at the Silver Saddle Ranch, 2648 Carson River Road on the east side of Prison Hill. Join the Wild Ass Women and their burros in enjoying performances by CW & Dr. Spitmore, Hick'ry Switch, Alex Muddy Smith, and the Sagebrush Rebels. Events begin at 3:00 p.m.
Two Sunday evening concerts on the grounds of the Legislature - August 14 and 21 - always attract large crowds. Bands include the Champagne Singers, Urban Renewal Project from Los Angels, Niall McGuinness and the New World Jazz Project, and the Reno Jazz Orchestra with guest singer Trey Stone.
Free concerts also will be held at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson Mall, Comma Coffee Courtyard, the new Bob McFadden Plaza on 3rd Street, Brewery Arts Center, and other Carson City venues. Special events include a History of Jazz art show, lecture, and concert, and a Speakeasy Dance Party with the Brass Knuckles band. A full schedule of events will be available soon on the website JazzCarsonCity.com.
