Events around the Carson City area for Sunday, July 7

Heading into Sunday, July 7, 2019 activities lined up around the Carson City region feature a Muscle Powered bike ride, train rides, the final day of the carnival at Mills Park, music, concerts and more. Look for sunny skies and a daytime high in the low to mid 80s. Enjoy your day.

Here is what's happening Sunday:

— Muscle Powered Sunday bicycle ride. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Rd. Meet at Fremont Elementary School in the South parking lot next to the Linear Ditch Trail. Typically, this ride consists of two 10-15 minute loops with varying pace depending on rider level. This is a “no drop” ride so no one will be left behind. All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, a helmet, and closed toed shoes. — Canyon White at Canvas Cafe. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Canyon White is at The Canvas Cafe every Sunday 9 a.m. to Noon so come on up and start your day right with some yummy breakfast and Canyon White!

— Nevada State Railroad Museum steams up for Fourth of July festivities in Carson City. 9:45 a.m. Friday through Sunday at 2180 S. Carson St. The Fourth of July is all about celebrating history and the Nevada State Railroad Museum Carson City has its most historic showpieces shined up, steamed up and to share with visitors from Thursday, July 4 through Sunday, July 7. Each day’s festivities will begin at 9:45 a.m. with the “Parade of Trains” featuring the museum’s workhorse steam locomotive, No. 25, the 1910 McKeen Motor Car and the 1875 wood-burning standard gauge locomotive Inyo. Also operating this weekend will be the 1875 narrow-gauge locomotive Glenbrook. From 10:40 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, the No. 25 and McKeen Motor Car will be making alternating passenger runs on the museum’s tracks, allowing visitors to ride both trains.

— Train to Virginia City from Carson City. Event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Prices for the ride range from $25-$55. Rediscover Nevada’s rich history in mining and mill on the V&T Carson City-Virginia City route as you meander through tunnels, canyons and mining towns aboard a restored 1914 Pullman coach led by a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive. This relaxing all-day train excursion is fully narrated with historical facts and anecdotes. Departing from Carson City’s Eastgate Depot, the 24-mile round-trip tour includes a fun 3.5-hour stopover in historic Virginia City, where you can stroll the boardwalks and explore restaurants, shops, saloons, museums, mines and more. — Artifact talk at Mormon Station. 12 to 2:30 p.m. at 2295 Main Street. Many of the artifacts in Mormon Station’s collection were very important items to people living in the Carson Valley area 100-plus years ago. New inventions have made some of these items obsolete, while others are simply no longer a part of day-to-day life for many people. As a result, sometimes the purpose behind artifacts isn’t obvious to us. Join park staff for a talk that will highlight select artifacts in the park’s collection and discuss their purpose.

— Bilingual Storytime at the Carson City Library. 1 to 2 p.m. at 900 N. Roop St. Weekly themed singing, stories, finger-plays, or art centered around a book in both English and Spanish. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.,

— July 4th Celebration and Carnival returns to Mills Park. 1 to 10 p.m. at Mills Park, 1111 East William St. The 4th of July Celebration and Carnival is presented by the RSVP and will feature fireworks on the 4th, carnival rides and games for all ages, great food and craft vendors, skate expo, live music on Thursday and Friday, DJ on Saturday and Sunday. Free admission, all day carnival wristbands $30, $5 discount coupons available at RSVP Beer Booth.

— Wild Horse Theater presents Disney's Newsies. 2 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Wild Horse Children’s Theater presents the Tony Award winning Broadway phenomenon, Disney’s Newsies in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center 851 East William Street in Carson City, June 28, 29, 30 and July 5, 6, and 7th. Based on the true 1899 story of a scrappy group of newsboys in New York City who become unlikely heroes when they rally forces to fight an unscrupulous newspaper tycoon, this inspirational defy-all-odds musical leaps onto the stage with soul stirring music, amazing heart, and stunning, energetic choreography.

— Celebrate the Fourth of July with TOCCATA. 4 p.m. at Carson Valley Methodist Church in Gardnerville. The Tahoe Symphony Orchestra, also known as TOCCATA, helps you celebrate the Fourth of July spirit with family and friends, close to home. Our 14th annual “BOPS” concert, conducted by Maestro James Rawie, is a delightful summer event that we perform at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville on Sunday, July 7 at 4 p.m. Additional performances/venues are listed below.) Revel in full orchestra and chorus performances of patriotic favorites, be swept off your feet by great opera arias, join in a sing-along, and, if you’re the highest bidder, conduct the “The Stars and Stripes Forever."

— Genoa Concert on the Green featuring The Young Fables. 5 to 7 p.m. at the Genoa Town Park, 2285 Genoa St. Classic Country and Americana, The Young Fables (TYF) are a country duo comprised of three-time American Idol vet Laurel Wright and Wesley Lunsford, an accomplished guitarist and vocalist.
