Nevada and Sierra fishing report for week of May 16-22

Here is this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in Nevada, Northern California and the Sierra. This report is for the week of May 16-22, 2012.

BISHOP AREA, CALIF:
Rick and Patti Apted - Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425) (www.lakesabrinaboatlanding.com) reports:
Sabrina Lake:
A Happy Mother’s Day to all of you that were always there for us and have made our lives richer and better – Thank you so much!
We hope you all had a GREAT Mom’s Day!
A BIG Thank You to all the Bishop Locals that came up to celebrate Mom’s day – Ken & Jean brought their Mom for pie and ice cream.
Well, you know it had to happen – the catching has slowed a tad – the fishing is still GREAT – how could it not be with the beautiful scenery! It’s not that you’re not catching fish, you’re just having to stay a bit longer to catch them – oh, darn – another hour at the Lake. Still saw lots of people up at the cleaning table.
Fishing the DingleBerry Inlet (back right corner) or the Little George Inlet (back left corner) or the George Inlet (about 1/3 of a mile this way of the Little George Inlet) with nightcrawlers, Salmon eggs or jigs.
Trolling the shoreline with nightcrawlers, red & gold Thomas Buoyants or Woolly Buggers – just watch out for those rocks.
Drifting with Power Bait or nightcrawlers.
For the land-lovers, fishing from shore with PowerBait or Salmon eggs.
Got new furniture in both Pontoons so they’re ready and waiting. Already getting reservations for the summer – so give us a call – they’ve got a BBQ and Bimini top – sure makes for a nice day at the Lake.
Forest Service campgrounds that are open are - BitterBrush, Bishop Park, Intake II, Four Jeffery and the Forks are all open. Look for Sabrina Camp and Willow Camp to open right before Memorial Day.
KEEPING THIS IN - Guess it’s that time of year to remind you of a few things – when using BUG JUICE (the skeeter are out and they are BIG – BIGGER THAN BIG) or SANITIZER you need to really wash your hands before fishing - then rub some Salmon Egg juice, worm dirt or Anglers Bros Trout attractant (got it in stock at the Lake) to take that smell off.
Remember your polarized dark glasses and sunscreen – we saw a few anglers that looked a bit like cooked lobster last year.
As there still is snow around, the rays from the snow are deadly!
You can check www.weather.gov and enter ASPENDELL, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather or check in with Howard at HYPERLINK "http://www.mammothweather.com/" \t "_blank" www.MammothWeather.com.
Lake Sabrina Boat Landing is serving Breakfast (Pie and Ice Cream are always good for Breakfast – you’ve got your fruit, oatmeal, dairy) from 7:00 am to 11:00 am and Lunch until 4:00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for now.
The store hours are as follows:
           Sunday          7:00 to 6:00 pm
           Monday         8:00 to 6:00 pm
           Tuesday         8:00 to 6:00 pm
           Wednesday    8:00 to 6:00 pm
           Thursday       8:00 to 6:00 pm
           Friday          8:00 to 6:00 pm
           Saturday       7:00 to 7:00 pm
Got one more week with these hours, then it will full-on Summer hours.
And, of course, we'll have HOMEMADE pie, sodas, beer, wine, coffee, tea and hot cocoa!
Thomas is the newest addition to the Lake Sabrina Crew – He’ll be working the weekends as our server.
Looking forward to seeing you all in the very near future.

BISHOP AREA, CALIF:
Jared Smith - Parcher’s Resort (760-873-4177) (sierrasmitty@cebridge.net):
South Lake:
Following a giant stocking of trophy 5 lb average Alpers with some fish pushing the double digit weight mark, anglers found conditions at South Lake excellent for both quantity and quality – some of the best May fishing in a long time.
To accommodate avid anglers South Lake Boat Landing launched their docks and boats on 5/12, the earliest we’ve had boats available in the seven seasons since the Smith family has operated the resort.
The weather has been uncharacteristically summer-like with warm days and mild winds making for great fishing days.
DFG and holdover rainbows are biting just about anything right now but the hot colors are orange and pink and the big fish seem to prefer mini-jigs and olive Woolly Buggers.
The dam and rock slide are the best producing spots on the lake at present.
The back of the lake is finally becoming ice free but it is only about 5ft deep back there so the fish haven’t moved into the flat yet.
Biggest of the week went 7 lbs 14 oz by Artin Minassi from Southern California who also managed a 6 lb 10 oz fish tossing Thomas Bouyants on Thursday. Andre Neresian of Sun Valley, CA managed fish weighing 2.5, 3 and 5 lbs 5 oz fishing jigs at the lake this week.
His group fished from a pontoon on Saturday and managed to fool 65 fish in the afternoon on jigs, Power Bait and crawlers
The launch ramp is still not accessible for private boaters and the lake level is stable right now so we do not have an estimate if/when it will be available.
South Fork Bishop Creek:
Creek flows are higher than few weeks ago but anglers hitting the stream are finding cooperative Rainbows in the deeper pools and slower moving pockets. Natural baits seem to be producing best with crawlers and crickets accounting for most of the fish caught.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Kent of The Trout Fly and Troutfitter (760-934-2517) (www.thetroutfitter.com) reports:
Water conditions:
Great. Full to the brim. Clear and getting warmer everyday.
Fishing conditions:
Great. Not much in the way to report, except the usual.
Fish are spread out until the weeds start to grow in.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
Bridgeport seems to be fishing better and better each day.
There's still some decent trolling action and the bait fishing and fly fishing
are both picking up steadily. The Rainbow Point area, Buckeye Bay and right off the marina have all been producing well. We've had lots of fish reported in the 2 to 5 pound range this week and we're also starting to see some nice perch making a showing, some pushing 3 pounds.
Fly anglers have been using Zebra Midges, Blood Midges and Chironomids.
Bait anglers have been using Power Bait, crawlers and Power Eggs.
Trollers have been doing the best with fire tiger Rapalas, Needlefish and Thomas Bouyants.
There's also been a bit of good shore action with bait down near the dam.

CAVE LAKE, WHITE PINE COUNTY, NEV:
Easy limits of planter-sized rainbows being caught with nightcrawlers.

CHETCO RIVER, ORE:
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (800-720-ODWF) (www.dfw.state.or.us.com) reports:

CONVICT LAKE AND CONVICT CREEK, CALIF:
Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260) (www.convictlake.com) reports:
Hello Convict Lake fishing report followers!  We've had a great start to the 2012 fishing season here at Convict Lake. The average size fish being caught is between 1.5-2lbs.
One of the best areas right now for catching fish is at the handicap pier!
Catch of the Week:
There are many large fish ready to be caught out there!
One of the largest fish caught so far this season was on opening weekend.
This was a 3 pound rainbow trout brought in by Bob Callahan from Temecula, CA on night crawlers along the North Shore.
Derby News:
Round-up at the Lake Fishing Derby started Sunday, April 30th for a chance to win $6,000 in Resort Prizes!
Weather:
The weather has been sunny and warm with the high in the upper 60s to low 70s, with lows in the 30's.  Here is a local site that is usually quite accurate www.mammothweather.com.
Tactics/Bait:
This past week anglers have had most success with nightcrawlers, chunky cheese gulp, and garlic or salmon peach Power Bait.
Locations to try are the Inlet, Outlet, North Shore, South Shore, Creek, Jetty, Handicap Pier and Hangman's Tree.
Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive:
Power Bait, Trout Teasers, Midges, Panther Martin, Needlefish, Thomas Bouyants, Green Woolly Bugger and White Mini Jig.
Stocking:
DFG stocked prior to opener.
Sunrise - Sunset:
Sunrise this week 5:59 am - 5:53 am and Sunset 7:47 pm - 7:59 pm.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF:
Kent of The Trout Fly and Troutfitter (760-934-2517) (www.thetroutfitter.com) reports:
Water conditions:
The lake is very high but DWP has opened the valve so it will be going down. Mild spring has resulted in higher water temps, like 50-52 on the bottom and active fish. (was 40 F last year this time). Water is crystal clear.
Fishing conditions:
Good.
Getting reports of good fishing at Sandy, McGee, Leighton, and Alligator.
Stick to flies with dubbed heads instead of beads when the water is this clear. Mostly in Gray, Olive or Black in color. Also try in front of all tribs as spawners stage in the lake before going up hill.
Midge hatches are strong and even some Calibaetis showing up already.
Mix of sizes on fish based on the multiple plantings last season. Lots of 15-16 fish about 1-2 inches larger than normal due to no ice and Chironomid hatches all winter. Everything being caught is healthy and strong.
These guys will be 18+ by the end of the season. Should be epic.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
The lake is still somewhat hit and miss and the fish are scattered.
Our best results lately have been in 12-13 feet of water with Stevie's Wonder black and silver. Try Leighton or Sandy Point.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF:
The Truckee River Outfitters (775-853-7368) (email: info@renoflyshop.com):
High winds over the past week have kept the fishing from taking off.
Lack of early season weed beds has allowed the wind to churn up the water a bit. It should be clearing over the next few days and the Blood Midges should be ready to pop.
The water is already pretty warm for May and the spring hatches at Davis should be on time or even early this year. We will see the Blood Midges and then the Damsels will be right behind them.
The next two months should be good at Davis.

EAGLE LAKE, CALIF:
The fishing season for Eagle Lake is closed.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR, LINCOLN COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Anglers have found good fishing for rainbow and tiger trout.
A few German Brown trout are showing up in the creel as well. One brown weighed in at nearly five pounds and another pushed the three-pound mark.
Effective baits include spinners, lures, flies, nightcrawlers and Power Bait. Anglers have found the tiger trout like gold or silver lures.
Bass have been caught at the lake’s upper end.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR, LINCOLN COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing has been good at this Lincoln Country reservoir.
Anglers are catching rainbow trout and largemouth bass along with a few crappie. The crappie are hitting small jigs fished about four to five feet below a bobber.
Power Bait, nightcrawlers and a variety of small spinners and lures are catching trout.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF:
The Truckee River Outfitters (775-853-7368) (info@renoflyshop.com):
Midges, Midges, Midges! The fish at Frenchman’s are eating Midges. There has been a good hatch in the mornings and another in the early evenings. Fish are cruising the mud flats during the hatch and also eating adult Midges on the surface after the hatch is over, especially on non windy days.
Truckee River Outfitters Guide Rob Anderson has had numerous clients out on the lake over the past week fishing “Floater No Cater” style and hammering the fish.
Maholo Midges in size 14-16 have been working very well.
Black Maholo Nymphs have also been catching a lot of fish.
Snail patterns and Leach patterns fished on an intermediate line has also been effective.

HEENAN LAKE, CALIF:
The fishing season for Heenan Lake is closed.

HOT CREEK, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Water flow at 36 CFS. Caddis hatch is starting to develop. CDC Caddis or E/C Caddis on the surface. Nymph fishing remains the most productive.
WD-40's, Flashback Pheasant Tails, Hares Ears and Scuds.

HOT CREEK, CALIF:
Kent of The Trout Fly and Troutfitter (760-934-2517) (www.thetroutfitter.com) reports:
Water conditions:
Great. Flows at 40 CFS as of 5/10.
Fishing conditions:
Good to Excellent. Looks like the Mayfly hatch happened way back around the end of February and March. Very few in the water last time I checked. Lots of larger Caddis though.
Water is crystal clear. Runoff? What runoff?
There are plenty of Midges early in the day, but once that sun starts to warm everything up it's time to switch to Caddis.

ILLIPAH RESERVOIR, WHITE PINE COUNTY, NEV:
Easy limits of planter-sized rainbows being caught with nightcrawlers.

JIGGS / ZUNINO RESERVOIR, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Unfortunately, Jiggs has dried up.

JUNE LAKE LOOP, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Try Silver Lake with black or purple Woolly Buggers on sink tip or full sink lines.  Rush Creek is very high at 195 CFS.

KIRMAN LAKE, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) ( HYPERLINK "http://www.kenssport.com" www.kenssport.com) reports:
Haven't heard much from Kirman this week, the few reports we did get were okay. Fish were being caught on Scud patterns as well as Bugger and Matuka patterns. We also talked to 2 anglers who managed to get into a few fish casting Bouyants from the shore.

LAUGHLIN, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife ( HYPERLINK "http://www.ndow.org" www.ndow.org) reports:
Colorado River:
Fishing is good for striped bass as well as rainbow trout. Anglers continue to catch some holdover fish along Casino Row. Look for trout in the deeper pockets where they can escape the heat.

MAMMOTH LAKES BASIN, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
The road is now open. Twin Lakes is open but the other lakes are still ice bound. Fishing on Twin is slow due to the very cold water.
The ice is breaking up on the upper lakes.

MAMMOTH LAKES, CALIF:
Kent of The Trout Fly and Troutfitter (760-934-2517) (www.thetroutfitter.com) reports:
Water Conditions:
Clear and Cold.
Fishing Conditions:
Bundle up, as the water in Upper Twin is cold.
Full sink line is required. Get your fly down to where the fish are.

MARLETTE LAKE, CARSON CITY & WASHOE COUNTIES, NEV:
The fishing season for Marlette Lake is closed.

LAKE MEAD, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing has been good for both largemouth and smallmouth bass. Anglers are catching fewer large fish than in recent weeks but are catching more fish.
Drop shots and tubes have been very effective.
Striped bass are taking cut baits south of Echo Bay with the best action at night. Small stripers are biting in the Vegas Wash area, and the catfish bite is beginning to improve.

LAKE MOHAVE, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Anglers are finding fair action for striped bass at Willow Beach. Double-digit stripers are hitting AC Plugs south of Willow Beach. Some fish have weighed in at more than 20 pounds.
Striped Bass action is a little slower out of Cottonwood Cove, but the catfish bite is picking up for fish averaging about two pounds.
Plastics and jigs continue to catch largemouth and smallmouth bass.

OREGON PACIFIC OCEAN AND BEACHES, ORE:
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (800-720-ODWF) (www.dfw.state.or.us.com) reports:
Fishing for surfperch continues to be very good on the beaches near Bandon.
Anglers have also picked up a few redtail surfperch on the beaches near Coos Bay. Sand shrimp has been the best bait to use but sand worms can also work.
Fishing for bottom fish is now closed outside of 30 fathoms.
Anglers can now retain Cabezon. The marine fish daily bag limit is seven fish, of which no more than 1 may be a Cabezon from April 1 through September 30.
There are separate daily limits for lingcod (two) and flatfish other than Pacific halibut (25).
From Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain the Near shore halibut season begins May 1.
The first weekend for the All depth halibut season is May 10- 12.
Recreational Chinook salmon season is open in the ocean from Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain.

OWENS RIVER, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Upper Owens River:
Current water flow is 124 CFS.  Water temp 44.
The river is still murky and fishing is poor.
The section below the monument has some larger lake fish and is under the same regulations as Crowley Lake. San Juan Worms and egg patterns.
Lower Owens River:
The gauge is now working and the flow is 409 CFS.
At this flow, fishing opportunities are limited.

OWENS RIVER, CALIF:
Kent of The Trout Fly and Troutfitter (760-934-2517) (www.thetroutfitter.com) reports:
Upper Owens water conditions:
Good to Fair. As of 5/10 the flows at 126 CFS.Water is very dirty.
Road is open all the way up
Fishing conditions:
Fair. Water is brown. Mostly due to runoff and grazing.
Try down closer to the mouth or above the Hot Creek confluence.
Owens River Gorge water conditions:
Great. Flow: 45 CFS.
This is a permanent flow required to be maintained by LADWP
Fishing conditions:
Excellent and nice and warm on cool sunny days this time of year.
Beautiful these days and lots of hungry fish to greet you!
Lower Owens water conditions:
Good. Flow is up to 408 CFS as of 5/10.
Fishing conditions:
Not much in the way of reports. It's hot down there, and the water is fast. Try some big streamers and leech patterns. Flows are now up to the point where it's going to be dangerous to wade. Be careful.

PINE VALLEY COMPLEX, HUMBOLDT COUNTY, NEV:
The fishing season for the Pine Valley Complex is closed.

PYRAMID LAKE, WASHOE COUNTY, NEV:
The Truckee River Outfitters (775-853-7368) (email: info@renoflyshop.com):
Reports have not changed much over the past week or so.
There have been some big fish caught but the numbers of fish remain low.
Most of the beaches are still flooded and wading out to the shelf is not possible. The South end of the lake is your best bet for getting your flies into fishable water. Wino, Sand Hole, Block House and most of the other beaches in that area have decent access to deeper water.
There have been reports at the North Nets of fish coming into the Trough between the first two sand bars. It takes the right weather and wind direction to get them in close.
First light and last light are also times to fish in the shallows. Bright sunny days continue to be slow.
Maholo Midges in Black or Wine have been working for Nymphing and Popcorn Beatles and Olive Martini’s for shooting heads.
The water is getting warm and with the air temps.
Going up this week it should start to get into the mid 60’s before long.

SAN JOAQUIN/RED’S MEADOW, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Road closed.

STEPTOE CREEK, WHITE PINE COUNTY, NEV:
Catali Quilici of Dayton, Nevada caught an 11.5 inch brook trout on a nightcrawler on Friday, May 11.

LAKE TAHOE:
Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbons Charters (530-544-6552) (www.blueribbonfishing.com) reports:
The Macks are running about 2-8 pounds with an occasional one in the double digit weight size.
I’ve been trolling 250-280 feet deep with Dodgers and minnows at the Tahoe City Shelf on the west side of the lake.

TRUCKEE RIVER:
The Truckee River Outfitters (775-853-7368) (info@renoflyshop.com):
The Truckee is in great shape for the middle of Run-Off season. The Yo-Yo effect the run-off has on the river this time of year has not been too bad. We are expecting some warmer weather this week so it will be interesting to see how much the river will come up. For now the water is clear and flows are pretty good, especially in the Glenshire area just downstream of the town of Truckee. As you go further downstream towards Reno the numerous tributaries that feed the Truckee bump up the flows a bit.
The entire river is fishable just be careful wading downstream of Boca Bridge. The water looks very normal but it is flowing pretty good.
Spring bugs are starting to show, especially around Reno.
The fish are not really eating on the surface but Nymphing with Caddis, Little Yellow Stones and March Brown’s has gotten some fish to eat. You can use one of those patterns and a Stone or a Green Drake as the lead fly.
Make sure to use some weight. The river is humming along pretty good.
If you are fishing in the higher flows look for areas along the banks for fish holding out of the current.
Flows are: Town of Truckee 315 CFS, Boca Bridge 616 CFS, Farad 624 CFS, Reno 541 CFS. Check the flows before you go as they are changing on a daily basis.

TRUCKEE RIVERS:
Peter Santley of the Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters (530-541-8208)
(www.tahoeflyfishing.com) reports:
On Tuesday, I floated the East Truckee River, with recent TFFO Guide School Graduates, Marcus Bradley and Seth Hofland.
While water was high flowing at 654 CFS and slightly stained, we still hooked 9 fish and were able to land 4 of them, all about 12-16″ on the indicator, we did hook two larger fish but like typically Truckee River Steel, they took large runs and came unbutton with head shakes.
We had one follow on a streamer but no takes.
While Run-off has started, flows are still at a good level to fish and catch fish!! Float Guide Trips are available…. and if you have never floated I highly recommend it!

LITTLE TRUCKEE RIVER:
The Truckee River Outfitters (775-853-7368) (email: info@renoflyshop.com):
Flows are 231 CFS. They have been in this range for a couple of weeks now. The flows are great for any time of year. They are a little higher than they are in the summer and it really spreads the fish out and opens up areas that normally do not hold fish. It also makes it harder to wade and the fish get a little break from anglers wading on top of them. They are not as spooky and have been very willing to eat a fly.
Baetis and Caddis have been hatching sporadically over the past week.
Nymphing or fishing a dry dropper set up has been very effective.
Truckee River Outfitters guides Doug Ouellette and Dave Stanley have had some really good days with clients over the past week. If the flows stay in the 200 CFS range, look for fishing to continue to be good.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
The Twins have been on fire this past week with fish showing up to 8.75 pounds. Lots and lots of fish in the 1 to 2 pounds range both trolling and bait fishing. Power Bait and crawlers have been great from shore or still fishing from boats and Needlefish, Hot Shots and Rapalas have been good on the troll.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
It sounds like Little Virginia and Trumbull are both ice free now, and Big V is about 25 percent ice free.
Fishing has been excellent on both Little V and Trumbull so you shouldn't have any trouble bending a rod up there.
Crawlers, Power Bait and Power Eggs have been doing well, lures like
Kastmasters and Thomas Bouyants have been good also. Fly choices should
include Matukas, Seal Buggers, Stillwater Nymphs and soft hackles.

WALKER LAKE, MINERAL COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
No Lahontan cutthroat have been reported or seen at Walker Lake since 2009. Mineral County Road Dept. has done some work on the State Parks Launch. Launching is improved but you still need four wheel drive.

WALKER RIVERS, NEV:
The Truckee River Outfitters (775-853-7368) (email info@renoflyshop.com):
Flows are 87 CFS. They have been holding in this range for a while now. It is a great flow and the fact that it has been steady is a big plus.
Fishing has been rock solid for a couple of weeks.
Nymphing with Caddis, Baetis, Midges and smaller Stones has been working well.
Fish are also starting to look up.
87 CFS is also a great flow for a Dry Dropper set-up. Try a Golden Stone with a small nymph as the dropper.
Warmer weather in the near future could spark the irrigation season so keep an eye on the flows before you go.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
East Walker – West Walker – Sceirine Ranch - Hunewill Pond:
East Walker River:
The flows on the EW have been bumped yesterday to 105 CFS.
The fishing has been excellent this past week!
I haven't heard anything about streamers and very little on dries, but the Nymphing has been very good.
Small Midges are still the norm but we are starting to see some Caddis coming off the last couple days.
Fish are spread out quite a bit so you can find them in the deeper pools, under cutbanks as well as in the riffle water.
Patterns to try include Zebra Midge, Disco Midge, Flashback Emerger, Soft Emerger, Rainbow Warrior, Silver Streak, Fox's Caddis Pupa, Z-Wing Caddis and 3 wire caddis.
We've been getting mixed reports from the Rosachi section, some days are
good and others not so good. It seems it's been much more consistent on the Sceirine and the Cali sections.

West Walker River:
We're still getting good reports from the West, haven't heard about any hoppers coming out yet but the bait fishing and lure fishing have been good. Once the hoppers start waking up the dry fly fishing should get really good.
Mepps, Roostertails and Panther Martins have all been good spinners.
Eggs and crawlers have been good baits and for flies go with small Buggers and attractor Nymphs like Princes and PT's.

Sceirine Ranch:
The Ranch has been fishing very well this past week, and we're starting to see some good numbers of Caddis down there as well.
Lots of action on Nymphs and dry/dropper rigs.
It's been getting booked up a few days in advance, especially on the weekends so call ahead if you want to head down there.
Chubby Chernobyl, Madam-X, Dark Lord, WD-40, Rainbow Warrior, Flashback Emerger, Disco Midges, Fox's Poopah, 3-Wire Caddis, Buckskin Caddis have all been working well on the ranch.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF:
Kent of The Trout Fly and Troutfitter (760-934-2517) (www.thetroutfitter.com) reports:
East Walker River water conditions:
Good. Flows down to 87CFS as of 5/10.
Fishing conditions:
Excellent! Finally some Caddis starting to show up in numbers. Get on the water early, with the flows where they are, it can get crowded fast.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
East Walker River:
Flow continues to bounce up and down and is currently at 105 CFS.
Hatch consists of Midges Mayflies and Crane Flies. Nymphing is good with WD-40's, Zebra Midges, Baetis Emergers and Buckskin Nymphs.

WASHOE LAKE, WAHOE COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Washoe Lake dried up in 2004 and, although it is presently full and has been restocked, the fish population, consisting mostly of channel catfish and white bass, is small. Fishing is expected to be poor.
