Plans moving forward for new Bodine's Casino in Carson City's North Town Plaza

Plans to open a second Bodine's Casino and Restaurant in Carson City are progressing, said Carson Valley Inn Public Relations Manager Bill Henderson.

Henderson said he spoke with Bodine's owner Mike Pegram by telephone briefly and was told plans to bring a Bodine's Casino and Restaurant to North Carson City are moving forward.

"He told me plans are moving ahead," Henderson said. "He said we are waiting on Carson City on one matter, but he did not say what that matter was."

According to Carson City Planning Manager Hope Sullivan, the next step in the process is to effectuate the transfer of the old Horseshoe Club's gaming license, which the Planning Commission approved last fall and was later affirmed by the Board of Supervisors.

No further action has been taken on the gaming license, Sullivan said, by Silver Bullet of Nevada, LLC, the joint ownership corporation of Pegram and the Carano Family, who owns the Eldorado Resort Casino in Reno. Together they own Bodine's Casino, the Carson Valley Inn in Minden, and Sharkey's Casino in Gardnerville.

Carson City's Community Development Department also said Thursday that a building permit has not been submitted for yet.

The Carson City Planning Commission approved the initial special use permit by Silver Bullet of Nevada in September 2016. That decision was challenged on appeal by other local gaming interests, including the Carson Nugget, the Gold Dust West, Casino Fandango, and Slot World.

But the appeal was voted down 2-1 by the Carson City Board of Supervisors on Dec. 1 under conditional requirements that the payment of all seven quarters of the gaming license — including the remaining six paid at the minimum required — prior to Dec. 31 before a license transfer can occur.

Bodine's seeks to occupy about 16,000 square feet of space in the southeast corner of the North Town Shopping Center off North Carson Street.

This space is not associated with the old Kmart building on the property's northwest side.
