Carson City weather: Thunderstorm threat prompts Red Flag Warning
A Red Flag Warning for western and northern Nevada including the Carson City and Lake Tahoe areas has been issued for Sunday by the National Weather Service due to the threat of new fire starts from dry lightning strikes.
Moisture will filter into the region Sunday which will allow for a scattered mix of wet and dry thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening.
Any dry lightning strikes may cause new wildfires in the area. Gusty outflow winds up to 50 to 60 mph are possible in the vicinity of these storms. New fire starts may combine with strong outflow wind gusts to cause fires to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

The weather service advises people to avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires and to follow local fire restrictions. Every second counts under these conditions. If you spot a fire, report it immediately.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, Sunday will be hot with a high in the upper 90s with chances of isolated thunderstorms by afternoon. There will be a cool down Monday and Tuesday with highs in the upper 80s along with the threat of scattered thunderstorms persisting through Tuesday night.
