Carson City arrests: Man jailed following string of store thefts

A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 1400 block of North Edmonds Drive Friday afternoon for suspicion of multiple felony offenses including burglary and grand larceny, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, Scott Keith Stovall was taken into custody at 2:03 p.m. by authorities after a store investigation confirmed he was involved in the theft of more than $400 on July 17.

The investigation showed Stovall and his girlfriend accomplice engaged in a scheme to steal money from the store return counter, the report said, by exchanging a cart of merchandise not yet paid for and then taking to the return counter, where they received a store credit card valued at more than $400.

The credit card had been rendered invalid by the time Stovall had returned the next day to use it in the store. He was also positively identified by store employees, the report said.

A sheriff's deputy located and interviewed Stovall's girlfriend Friday afternoon. She admitted to her part in the scheme, which included a string of merchandise return thefts at multiple retail stores in Carson City and Reno, the report said.

Items purchased with store credit cards were later sold to area pawn shops for cash, the report said.

Stovall's girlfriend was not charged due to her cooperation with police, the report said. At around 2 p.m. Friday, Sheriff's deputies made contact with Stovall at his residence, the report said, having been given consent to enter and search by the girlfriend.

He was handcuffed and arrested at that point. A records check confirmed an outstanding felony warrant out of the Second District Court of Washoe County in Reno for grand larceny. Bail: $25,000.

Two other deputies present then pushed the door open and took the suspect to the ground, the report said. The suspect struggled on the ground, continued to resist officers who were attempting to place handcuffs on him.

Eventually, deputies gained control of the suspect, who was safely detained and subsequently transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $2,000.

— A 28 year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Saturday morning at 2:23 a.m. in the area of East Robinson and North Plaza streets on felony possession of a controlled substance (PCS), misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding misdemeanor bench warrant, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, Ashley Klos was taken into custody following a traffic stop of the unlicensed vehicle she was riding in.

Records checks were performed on both Klos and the driver, the report said. Klos returned with an active bench warrant out of the Carson City Justice Court for misdemeanor failure to appear.

She was instructed to exit the vehicle at that point and was handcuffed by the deputy. En route to the Carson City Jail, Klos admitted to having methamphetamine and marijuana contained in her bra.

The arresting deputy informed detention staff of Klos's statement. Blue and black plastic vials were discovered during the intake process, the report said.

The blue vial contained a white crystalline substance positively identified as methamphetamine, while the black vial contained what appeared to be marijuana.

In addition, a bandana was found during the intake search containing a blue glass pipe with burn marks on its end. This was identified as a meth pipe, the report said.

Klos was subsequently charged with felony PCS and booked into the Carson City Jail. Bail: $2,500.

According to the arrest report, a 27-year-old Carson City man was taken into custody at 8:08 p.m. after law enforcement had responded to the Sutro Terrace residence on a domestic battery call.

Dispatch had advised deputies prior to their arrival that a male suspect had attacked the reporting party, who had a valid temporary protection order (TPO) against the assailant, the report said.

Upon arrival, deputies met with the reporting party/victim, who said the suspect had contacted her multiple times of the past few days to see his child.

The victim said she transported the child to the suspect's house, the report said. Once there, she observed him to be intoxicated. She then informed the suspect that he would have to visit the child another day because of his intoxication.

The suspect became upset at that point, the report said, pouring beer on the victim, grabbing her by the throat and then slapping her in the face.

The victim reported that she was able to get away from the suspect and dialed 911.

Deputies at the scene observed the victim's shirt to be covered in beer and still wet. The victim also had visible scratches on the right side of her neck. There were visible red marks on the left side of the victim's neck as well, the report said.
