New '3rd Thursday' events kick off in Dayton with barbecue, family activities and music
DAYTON — The new "3rd Thursday" events in Lyon County aim to bring groups, families and communities together with family friendly activities. The first event kicks off in Dayton this Thursday July 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. with music, family activities and games, a free BBQ by Healthy Communities Coalition, and information booths by Lyon County libraries, Human Services, Community Chest Inc, Community Roots and Shoots, etc.
Healthy Communities’ executive director Wendy Madson said, “Lyon County Human Services has done a beautiful job getting this off the ground. The goal is to expand 3rd Thursdays to additional Lyon County towns this year.”
The first in the ongoing series of “3rd Thursday” events is at Healthy Communities’ Dayton Farmers Market and Solidary Garden on the corner of Highway 50 and 2nd Avenue in Dayton.
The market welcomes WIC and USDA Senior Coupons, in addition to cash, etc. In a partnership with VegasRoots, the market also offers Double Up Food Bucks Program, a way for people to match a monetary amount up to $20 when using their SNAP benefits at the market.
