Giving an overview of the initiative are Denise Hecht-Mack (Executive Director), JD Powers (Program Coach), and Linda Flaherty, who has been a board member and mentor to participants. C.I.R.C.L.E.S. stands for “Connecting Individuals to Resources that Change Lives and Enable Success.”

This Wednesday, April 19, COVID vaccines will be available from Nevada Health Centers in Dayton and Silver Springs. Primary doses and Bivalent Boosters are available. There is no cost for the vaccines.

Dayton Valley Golf Club and Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey are joining together to hold the third annual Fall Harvest Classic Golf Tournament, “Drive Out Hunger” on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022. All proceeds benefit HCC’s food pantries. You can participate by being in the golf tournament, sponsoring a 4 person team, or donating raffle items.

The current artist-in-residence in Silver City, Brian Schorn, is also a certified meditation instructor. On Tuesday July 5 at 10am, he is offering teens and adults a free session in Calm-Abiding meditation, which is used in mindfulness practices.

What: This 6 week self-management series of workshops was developed at Stanford University and offers anyone living with diabetes — or anyone living with or caring for someone with diabetes — the tools and skills to successfully manage their condition.

The Lyon County Utilities Department discovered a note Tuesday that threatened the sanctity of a well site in the Dayton water service area. Utilities staff notified the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and a criminal investigation was initiated, said County Manager Jeff Page.

DAYTON — The new "3rd Thursday" events in Lyon County aim to bring groups, families and communities together with family friendly activities. The first event kicks off in Dayton this Thursday July 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. with music, family activities and games, a free BBQ by Healthy Communities Coalition, and information booths by Lyon County libraries, Human Services, Community Chest Inc, Community Roots and Shoots, etc.

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution stating its opposition to Nevada's new gun background check law.

UPDATE 12:08AM: With all but 557 early votes remaining to be counted, the movement to end brothels and legalized prostitution has failed among Lyon County voters. As of midnight Wednesday, 16,206 have voted "no" and 3,916 voted "yes."

A voter movement to end brothels and legalized prostitution in Lyon County appears to have failed, according to preliminary absentee and early voting results late Tuesday night.

UPDATE 9:40PM: 100 percent of ballots for Carson City have been counted, including absentee and early voting. Here are the final results for the contested races:

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted Thursday to approve a resolution to place an Advisory Question on the November ballot to address the brothel question. The question reads as:

The Community Fill and Deliver operation is well underway.

Crews from the City of Yerington, Lyon County, Nevada Division of Forestry inmate crews, civic organizations, and citizens are filling and delivering sandbags throughout the community to senior citizens and the disabled.

Silver Springs, Nevada – The public November breakfast meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) at the Silver Springs Community Center takes place on Thursday November 10th at 9am.

Lyon County, Nevada – Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties recently welcomed ten AmeriCorps members who will serve communities throughout the Lyon County region during the 2016-2017 fiscal year. Christy McGill, director for Healthy Communities, explained that “all are Lyon County residents with a stellar history of volunteerism, selected due to their passion for helping others.”

Lyon County, Nevada was the fastest-growing county in the United States prior to the 2008 economic collapse took one of the biggest hits statewide in the foreclosure crisis. The state overall was one of the hardest hit nationally and the housing market is still in recovery.
A glimmer of hope was seen in 2013, as home values headed up while foreclosure rates headed down, according to a report from the Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Silver City, Nevada —population around 200 — is a small, unincorporated community in rural northwestern Nevada. It is located along State Route 342, in Gold Canyon, 3.5 miles from Virginia City. It lies within the Virginia City National Historic Landmark and the Comstock Historic District. The nearest large cities are Reno, 20 miles to the north, and Carson City, 9 miles to the southwest.

A number of Silver City residents will go before lawmakers today to show their support of a proposed amendment to Nevada's eminent domain law that would remove the ability of a private person or business to exercise the law for the purposes of mining.

The current law on eminent domain (Chapter 37 of the Nevada Revised Statues) allows private individuals to take private land from property owners without their consent, for the purposes of mining. Testimony on this bill will be heard by the Judiciary Committee of the Nevada State Legislature today at 9 a.m. in room 2149.

Two guest speakers will be featured this month at the second Silver Springs social for families with military members and veterans.

The social will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Silver Springs Senior/Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs. The gathering is for Silver Springs and Stagecoach families of veterans, enlisted and reserve members, and for reserve, active duty, and veterans. It is open to anyone from Silver Springs and Stagecoach with a family member who is or has been in the military. Children are very welcome!

During the September 2010 Healthy Communities Coalition meeting, over 70 community leaders and officials from throughout Lyon County, Nevada gathered to sign a “community covenant.” The covenant promised Lyon County communities, State and local groups will work together to increase community support to the area’s military families and veterans. A number of new or expanded events and initiatives have followed that pledge.

The sacrifices of military families and veterans — past, present and future — are recognized and valued in Lyon County.



That message was delivered in many ways during a “Military Community Covenant” signing ceremony last week during Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey’s September meeting.

Community leaders from throughout Lyon County were on hand to sign a “community covenant” that promises Lyon County communities and State and local groups will work together to increase support to the area’s military families and veterans.
