Heading into Tuesday, the capital city will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint with events throughout the day. Other activities include a morning and evening walk hosted by Muscle Powered, a dinner fundraiser for the Roman family at Pizza Factory, a community dinner and meeting invite to the Order of Eastern Star, a showing at the BAC of the 1941 film classic "The Lady Eve" and a concert featuring the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn at Shepherd-Sierra Lutheran Church. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition "Impact" by artist Paula Chung at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The Initiative will host an opening reception this Friday, 5 to 6:30 p.m. The artist will give a brief talk about her work at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from Feb. 7 through May 28, 2020.

Was there humor to be found in the Impeachment Trial? You bet there was. To begin, you can't ask a senator who is used to jumping up and pontificating every five minutes to sit still and listen to somebody else for eight hours without interrupting.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host its February Full Moon Hike this Saturday on the South end of Prison Hill. The hike will be a glow stick adventure featuring the "Snow Moon," Ghost Rock and plenty of beautiful terrain.

Obstacles are nothing new for Carson City native Rebecca Ostrander.

Ostrander, 21, suffered a brain tumor shortly after her 18th birthday. She was forced to spend most of her senior year of high school in hospitals and physical therapy recovery centers.

Carson City Fire Department responded late Monday morning to the 200 block of North Division Street for a report of light smoke coming from a preschool that was later determined to be from a burned heater inside an HVAC system.

All children were safely evacuated from the preschool at 212 North Division Street. According to dispatch, at around 11:13 a.m. there was a report of a smell of smoke coming from the building.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in attempting to locate a runaway juvenile.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.

First Descents invites local young adults impacted by cancer or multiple sclerosis on a low-impact snowshoeing hike. The experience will empower participants to adventure outdoors beyond their diagnosis, reclaim their lives, connect with others doing the same and improve their long-term survivorship.

Carson City Elks No. 2177 held a fundraiser for the Carson-Douglas Rodeo Club. This dinner event, spearheaded by Jim Masterson, was held on Jan. 17 at the Lodge in Carson City. Many Elks volunteered for this sucessful event. $4,200 was raised to help the club youths with their travel expenses and equipment.

CARSON CITY — Time for golf! The Silver Oak Senior Men’s Golf Club has officially teed it up for the 2020 golf season. SOSMGC is open to golfers 55 years of age and older and all handicap levels. Dues are $80 which includes your membership and handicap posting in the Northern Nevada Golf Association GHIN service.

Six teams of Carson City area filmmakers are making romance short films in one week. The films will be screened starting at 6 p.m. with buffet dinner, 50/50 raffle and an "It's a Date" teaser on Friday, Feb. 14.

From sunny skies and warm temperatures to gusty winds, significantly cooler conditions and the chance for a blast of snow in the Sierra and maybe even down to the valley floor: what a difference a day makes. Solar panels at the Lake Tahoe Airport have finally been installed and are set to go live next month. That will make this building the City’s first to run entirely off solar power.

It is one thing to study history; it is another witness it. Visitors to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City this Tuesday, Feb. 4, will find themselves in history’s front row as the museum celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint. Just as it did 150 years earlier to the day, the Mint’s Coin Press No. 1 will be pressing silver coins, complete with the famous “CC” mint mark.

The CHS, NJROTC Orienteers competed in a weekend long orienteering festival in Anza Borrego State Park, Calif., Jan. 17-18. During the festival, team members competed in three different races over the two days.

A 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning for multiple violations of a temporary protective order.

On Friday evening, deputies were dispatched to a residence to meet with a victim stating the man had attempted to make entry into her residence.

‘Colonizing Space,’ ‘Extreme Places’ Presentations at JCDO Accompany Mike Thomas to one-of-a-kind spots and outer space for the Northern Nevada lecturer’s opening presentations of 2020 at Jack C. Davis Observatory.

Thomas will talk about “Extreme Places” on Friday, Feb. 7 and “Colonizing Space” on Saturday, Feb. 8. other lectures are free to the public and begin at 6:30 p.m.; doors to the observatory open at 6 p.m.

On January 25th, shortly before 8 p.m., Deputies were dispatched to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center regarding two males who had arrived with reported gunshot wounds. One victim was treated for minor head injuries, while the second victim was transported to Renown Medical Center by Careflight for treatment. Both have since been released from the hospital.

A possible vehicle versus pedestrian accident was reported to dispatch just before 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Motorists should seek alternate routes as first responders and law enforcement assess the scene.

After driving public transport for half a decade, Tawny Barker knew she wanted some peace and quiet, and decided instead to apply to drive transport for a mortuary.

A 21-year-old Carson City man and an 18-year-old Carson City woman were arrested in the 1600 block of Airport Road for marijuana-related crimes.

Heading into the Super Bowl weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the monthly downtown Carson City wine walk, plus karaoke at Bella Vita Bistro and Y-NOT Saloon. The Forest Service begins its first “Ski With a Ranger” at Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Mountain Resort on Friday. Combined with championship football festivities on Sunday, the Silver State is in store for a wild, good time.

Heading into the weekend it sure will seem like spring around the Carson City region and even up at Lake Tahoe, with ample sunshine and near record high temperatures. By Sunday though, that will change as a strong cold front brings much colder and windier conditions with a possible quick round of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Each year, a national “Point-in-Time Count” is conducted in any community that receives U.S Housing and Urban Development funds as a way to figure out how many people are suffering from homelessness in each community in order to better apply resources.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit invites you to Ski with a Ranger at Heavenly Mountain Resort beginning Friday, Jan. 31, 2020. The University of Nevada, Reno’s Camp Kesem club has been chosen as one of 12 colleges and universities from across the United States to compete to be one out of five schools to be chosen to start a new Camp Kesem chapter in their local area. Carson City is at the center of a legal dispute following its refusal to allow hemp to be grown on property in the Buzzys Ranch area in East Carson City. Tahoe Hemp is suing for $15 million in damages citing the city broke its agreement with the Jarrard Family Trust, which gives rights to the family to use the property for agricultural purposes.

On Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at approximately 7:43 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash involving a pedestrian on US-50 and Mark Twain Avenue in Dayton.

CARSON CITY — On Wednesday the Southern Nevada Health District reported the first person under investigation in Nevada for the 2019 novel coronavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be testing samples from the Southern Nevada resident who has been identified as a person under investigation. Currently, Nevada has no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.

CARSON CITY — Single lane closures will take place on eastbound U.S. 50 west of Dayton Jan. 30 as the Nevada Department of Transportation repairs parts of a roadway barrier damaged in a crash.

A Reno man has been indicted for murder in a shooting that happened in December on Washoe Tribal land in Carson City.
