CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson City Nevada Triad presents Scams Targeting Older Adults a presentation designed to educate you on the current trends in frauds and scams and learn how to not fall victim to their ploys. The event will take place in the Joshua Tree Room at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Tuesday, March 3 from 1 to 2 p.m.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for any information on the whereabouts of a man who has been identified in connection to two recent burglaries.

Every year Carson City’s Leisure Hour Club recognizes local not-for-profit groups that excel in supporting the greater Carson City community. On Feb. 19 the club donated $500 to the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society. Glen Whorton, President of the NSPPS, accepted the donation and said that the donation will contribute to making the prison open to the public.

CARSON CITY — Initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled just over 10,500 in January, down 860 claims, or 7.6 percent compared to last January. Compared to December of 2019, initial claims fell by 12.3 percent, or 1,480 fewer claims, according to figures released Thursday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

STATELINE — There was an exciting end to last Presidents’ Day Weekend for Dorothy Boone of Temple, Texas as she hit the Three Card Poker progressive jackpot at Harveys Lake Tahoe on Monday night, Feb. 17, resulting in a win of $1,340,518.

Vigilante, Old West, Law and Order, Peace Keepers

The Virginia City Silent Riders are a group of volunteers who represent the western frontier which was often a dangerous and lawless place. When justice needed to be served, there wasn't always a Sheriff and Judge. Instead, there were honorable and righteous men and women who stepped in to deliver swift justice. These groups were known as 'vigilance committees', and they existed across the west.

Sierra Lutheran High School junior Annalynn Mueller tied for first and freshman Riley McHenry placed second in the local round of the Fleet Reserve Association’s (FRA) Americanism Essay Contest.

Crowds at the Carson City caucuses were decidedly smaller this year thanks to the new early voting caucusing allowed by recent legislation.
