Carson City arrests: Woman found sleeping in vehicle reported stolen

A 35-year-old woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.

Latisia Gonzales, listed as a transient, was taken into custody in the 1300 block of North Carson Street after a deputy located the vehicle, which had been reported stolen earlier, and the woman sleeping inside.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a casino in the 500 block of North Carson Street at around 6:30 p.m. for a report of a stolen 1998 Ford Explorer.

At approximately 11:20 p.m. a deputy patrolling the area observed the vehicle in a parking lot of a motel in the 1300 block of North Carson Street. Dispatch confirmed the vehicle was listed as stolen. A deputy approached the vehicle, where he found the female suspect, the sole occupant, sleeping in the driver's seat. The woman woke up, where she exited the vehicle, complied with verbal commands and was detained, the report states.

She was read her Miranda warning where she stated she entered the vehicle to stay out of the cold. She said she did not know how the vehicle got to the parking lot where she was parked. She stated one of her friends told her the vehicle belonged to him, but could not remember the friend's name, the report states. Deputies located the vehicle keys in the woman's front sweater pocket.

The vehicle was returned to the owner. The woman was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle. Bail: $10,000.

In other arrests:
— A 66-year-old Carson City man, Roger Wayne Johnson, was arrested Saturday for a felony warrant issued in April 2019 out of Dayton Township Court following a traffic stop in which he was also taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and other offenses.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle for having expired registration. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which then traveled around 100 feet in the center lane before pulling into a parking lot.

The driver of the vehicle attempted to exit the vehicle, stumbling then catching himself. The officer ordered the man to have a seat in the vehicle, which he complied. The officer approached the vehicle and could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage from inside the vehicle. The man told the officer he was going shopping. The officer observed the man's eyes were red, watery and bloodshot. His speech was slightly slurred and he could not find the documents the officer asked for, the report states.

The deputy asked for the man's driver's license, which he said was in the back of the car. The officer looked down on the vehicle floorboard and could see a 40-ounce bottle of Budwiser on the floor leaking. The officer asked the man to exit the vehicle which he complied, stumbling and leaning over to the side.

The officer caught him and escorted him to the side of his vehicle. The officer obtained his Nevada identification card. The man agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment, at one point telling the officer he "had too much beer" during one of the tests, the report states.

He provided a preliminary breath test of .244. Deputies then learned the man had a confirmed felony warrant out of Lyon County alleging domestic battery and was arrested for the warrant, suspicion of DUI, driving without a valid license and fictitious registration. Total bail amount listed: $7,721.

— A 51-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday, 12:56 p.m. in the 3900 block of Highway 50 East for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued out of Wells, Nev. Bail: $297.

— A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 9:41 p.m. in the area of College Parkway and Market Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and failure to stop at a stop sign.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to the 3100 block of Market Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot and the driver slumped over.

A deputy arrived and saw the vehicle matching the description leave the area. The officer followed the vehicle onto Market Street as it approached College Parkway. The vehicle failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign line and the officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The officer made contact with the driver and could smell a mild odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. The officer asked if he had been drinking. The man stated he had about three beers and his last drink was an hour prior, the report states.

The officer asked the man if he would submit to a standardized field sobriety tests. The man agreed and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test in which he blew a .144 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI, according to the report.

He was read the request for voluntary evidence which he denied to provide a breath or blood sample. The deputy applied for a telephonic affidavit, which was granted and two vials of blood were drawn. Bail: $1,249.

UPDATE: Due to increased fire weather conditions, NV Energy has upgraded a Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) Watch to Warning status in Genoa, southwestern Carson City and Virginia City Highlands in northern Nevada for today, Nov. 13 and into tomorrow morning.
A PSOM warning means a de-energization is likely to prevent the possibility of sparking a wildfire.

UPDATE: NV Energy has de-activated approximately 5,500 electricity customers in Washoe County in the area of the fire at Callahan Ranch.

NV Energy reports 2,636 customers without power Monday morning in Carson City. The outage was reported at 9:46 a.m. At this time there is not an estimated time of restoration. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 5PM: Fire crews will be mopping up the Callahan Fire overnight and into tomorrow. One primary residential structure was lost along with multiple outbuildings. The cause is under investigation at this time. Some fire evacuations remain in place at Callahan Rd and Fawn Lane as crews mop up hot spots. See Perimetermap.com here for evacuation updates.

UPDATE 12:55PM: The fire is estimated at approximately 100 acres; approximately 3,000 people have been impacted by evacuations. Rain is falling on the fire scene. Additional Strike Teams totaling 10-15 engines have begun arriving to assist on the fire, according to Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which tracks fires in the region.

Just before 11 a.m. on Monday, the Washoe County Alert system sent out an evacuation notice to residents in the Callahan Ranch area stating they should evacuate immediately.

The evacuation point is at South Valleys Library located at 15650A Wedge Pkwy, Reno.
