Carson City students are recognizing and honoring military men and women this week with Veteran’s Day displays and events. Veterans from all branches of military service, as well as families of students, have been encouraged to attend or participate in events Wednesday and Thursday. Campus visitors should check in at the front office at each school site.

On Saturday, November 12, 2022, Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City will host a Veterans Day Weekend Fun Shoot from 9:00am to 4:30pm. Target fees will be discounted all day. Everyone is invited to come!

Back in July Vladimir Putin quoted and credited Mark Twain. At the time, I suspected he was reaching out, maybe not with an olive branch, but maybe with a twig. He said, “To quote Mark Twain, ‘The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.’” I was wrong.

My neighbor Patrick Mobley has an open house once a year to display his model railroad layout. The announcement on Facebook says the display is titled "Great Basin and Sierra." It models the high Nevada desert, Sierra and the California foothill trains. Here are some photos taken Sunday morning.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Nov. 6-13, 2022. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

A winter storm moving into the region is expected to bring up to 4 feet of snow to the Sierra and a few inches to the valley floors Monday and Tuesday impacting motorist travel commutes, according to the National Weather Service.

Save the date for the upcoming wrapping party for "Be a Santa to a Senior." on Dec. 10 and 11. Home Instead will be assigning days as they get closer to the event.

The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. at Home Instead. The address is 1277 W. 7th St. Reno, NV 89503.

The Nevada State Museum presented a free Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, event in collaboration with Western Nevada College and Visit Carson City on Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m.

The event celebrated a traditional Mexican holiday that pays tribute to the lives of loved ones who have passed on. It was filled with delightful crafts, traditional music, folk dancing and a food truck with plenty of options to choose from.

Local entries for the Lions International Peace Poster Contest are now on display at the Nevada Artists’ Association Gallery, 449 King Street, Carson City. The Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Peace Poster entries will be on display at the Gallery until November 15th.
