On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Carson City Sheriff's Office Detective Ramon Marquez issued a press release to identify a suspect in a purse theft at a Carson City business in June 2024. This suspect has been linked to several purse thefts in Carson City and Northern Nevada. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate these thefts.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY: The Spring Valley Fire has been mapped at 264 acres and is 20 percent contained. Highway 395 has been fully reopened. All evacuations have been lifted. Residents may now return to their homes. Fire crews continue to mop up for hot spots. Emergency teams are assessing damage. See the perimeter map here and incident command page here.

UPDATE 8:37PM: Residents located within the Double Springs evacuation zone are asked to please stay in their homes while fire crews continue operations and extinguish hot spots. Officials are asking Double Springs residents who evacuated to please not return to their homes until fire crews complete operations and deem the area safe to reenter.

U.S. 395 will remain closed to allow fire crews to continue operations. U.S. 395 will likely not open until the morning hours of July 17.

Evacuations for Topaz Ranch Estates are lifted as of 8 p.m. and residents may now return to their homes. The Topaz Ranch Estates Community Center evacuation center is now closed. The evacuation for Double Springs is still in place. U.S. 395 is still closed in both directions at Leviathan Mine Road and State Route 208.

A 61-year-old woman was arrested July 11 for suspicion of robbery, battery on a peace officer and battery by a prisoner, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Helicopter mosquito abatement treatments are planned for Thursday, July 18 in the areas of Anderson, Buzzy Ranch, Riverview Park, Linear Ditch and ponds east of I-580, according to Carson City Health and Human Services.
