On July 27, 28, and 29 the Sand Harbor Boat Beach from the boat ramp to the group area will be closed to the public for a special event. On July 28, the Sand Harbor Boat Ramp Parking Lot will be closed to all parking. Visitors can still access the park through the main entrance until the parking lot is closed for the day due to capacity, or by riding the East Shore Express.

Devil’s Ladder History Hike at Carson Pass: This is a walk down to the where the old highway crosses the Emigrant Trail at Devil’s Ladder. The El Dorado National Forest Interpretive Association is offering an Interpretive Hike, “The Geology of Carson Pass” at 10:30AM, and will start at the Carson Pass Information Station on California Hwy 88. Learn about the amazing geological formations around the area. These hikes are designed for people who can hike a couple of miles and appreciate the rocks as much as the flowers. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is seeing a spike of fraudulent scams with a large increase of citizens becoming victims. The following are examples of fraudulent scam activity being seen.

As part of the ongoing Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, Along the Colorado opens at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery on August 4, 2022, and will be on display online at nevadahumanities.org. My husband recently increased the time on each irrigation station to compensate for the hotter windier days. Drift smoke from the Oak Fire near Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County moved into the Sierra Front and western Nevada overnight. The fire remains active with smoke impacts likely to continue. As of Sunday morning, both Gardnerville and Minden's air quality was in the "unhealthy range," according to airnow.gov.

Summer poetry writing workshop participants read their poems Monday

Fire season is year-round. In the past, wildfires normally occurred in late summer and early fall when temperatures were high, humidity was low and vegetation extremely dry. Local, state, and federal fire managers now know that devastating wildfires can occur any time of year. Over 90 percent of wildfires are caused by people and are completely preventable.

UPDATE 9:22 p.m.: It was determined that the victim of the gun shot was also the suspect -- as he was getting out of a car, he accidentally shot himself in the leg with his own shotgun before he was taken to the hospital.

A suspect is at large following a shooting that occurred this evening in the area of Sherman Lane and Kit Sierra.

One male victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, but they do not appear to be life threatening, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help Identifying a Burglary Suspect.

On Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at approximately 3:00 AM a suspect wearing a long sleeve shirt (possibly with the Carhartt logo and lettering down the sleeve), jeans, white shoes, a dark colored backpack with writing on upper portion near a Jan sport logo and a white bandana over his face entered Wing Stop.

On Thursday, Roney Rolando Gonzalez-Otazo, the man who pled guilty to two counts of reckless driving following a fatal crash in Nov. 2021 was sentenced to 18 - 60 months on each count to be served consecutively, resulting in a sentence of 3 to 10 years in prison.
