Carson City's Historical Society hosts Chautauquan Kim Harris, picnic lunch and silent auction
Keep Saturday, August 27, open so you can attend a true blockbuster event here in Carson City. It will begin with a fabulous picnic at the Carriage House, catered by John Hurzel of “A Catered Affaire.” Following the best picnic you will ever eat, the premiere performance of ‘The Life of Annie Roberts” will be presented by noted Chautauquan Kim Harris, who has spent over a year researching all the details of the woman who lived in our historical treasure — the Roberts House — and raised her family 50 feet from where you will have lunch.
History doesn't get any more accessible than that!
Kim Harris is an accomplished Chautauquan who has portrayed living history characters at various venues including Genoa Cowboy Festival, Pipers Opera House, the Gold Hill Hotel, Granlibakken, Dangberg Historic Park and The Lake Tahoe Chautauqua Festival.
Harris currently serves as Events Manager at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden, NV, and is the owner and operator of Western History ALIVE! where she portrays several Chautauqua characters including Charley Parkhurst, Libbie Bacon Custer and Lizzie Borden.
Harris was born and raised at Donner Lake, Calif., growing up immersed in the history of our West. She enjoys not only sharing what she has learned about our history, but continuously learning from those that have lived it themselves.
SILENT AUCTION
Capping the event will be a silent auction, uniquely set in the various rooms of the Foreman-Roberts House, featuring commission sales of valuable items from our members and possibly one or two surplus items from the inventory of the Carson City Historical Society.
Tickets are limited and priced at $36 for members and $40 for non-members. Given what we know is going to be a unique and exciting event, you must pre-purchase your tickets (cash, check, or credit card) by August 20 from Paula Cannon at (775) 887-8865. Only fully paid members will be eligible to enter items in the Silent Auction.
Unique Silent Auction for Saturday, August 27
If you are thinking about downsizing and have an heirloom, antique or special items you would like to sell in a very, very special venue, here’s your golden opportunity. On August 27, following our fabulous old-timey picnic and premiere presentation of Annie Roberts by Kim Harris, we will move from the Carriage House to the Foreman-Roberts House for a Silent Auction amidst the wonderful venue of history.
Only currently paid members of the Carson City Historical Society may submit items for sale. You must sign-up in person Sunday, August 14 from 1-3 pm at the Foreman-Roberts House.
The items should be of vintage or antique interest. Only one item or set (as a unit) will be permitted per member because there will be a maximum of TEN appropriate slots anticipated.
— Event organizers will select the most appropriate placement location in the Foreman-Roberts House.
— You must deliver it, and any unsold items must be picked up immediately after the sale.
— Commission to the Historical Society will be 25% for a final bid price under $99.99 or 20% if the final bid price is $100.00 or more.
— We anticipate a lot of interest in this venue and hope to hold future auctions similar in nature. If you are not one of the lucky sellers this this event, you will be on the list of first-refusal members for subsequent auctions.
— Sign up will start August 14 at 1 p.m. and close after the first ten members have secured their place, at which time a waiting list will be started in order of contact. Call Paula Cannon 775-887-8865 for information or to sign-up.
