Students are returning to classrooms with additional resources this year. The State of Nevada has invested $75 million for free school meals in Nevada schools operating the National School Lunch Program to continue pandemic recovery and ensure students have food to eat by providing free school breakfast and lunch. NSLP is administered through the Nevada Department of Agriculture.

The Carson City Moose Lodge work team volunteered at the Sutro Tunnel property on August 7. The team spent the majority of the day making improvements to the structure referred to as the carriage house. The lodge members are working with the Friends of the Sultro Tunnel to support the restoration effort.

“We’re thrilled to be making Northern Nevada music history,” says Kitty McKay, co-owner of the new restaurant, lounge and music venue, the Nashville Social Club in Carson City. “The first ever show at the 'The Swan’ Music Hall is happening this Friday, August 12.”

UPDATE: The Carson City Sheriff’s Office received calls that Heidi Lanyon has been seen in the Reno area of Kietzke and Plumb Lane. The 43-year-old appeared to be approximately 160 pounds with stringy hair and wearing a purple dress.

Summer is a time to head back to the garden. The Carson City Photo Club was up for the challenge in July, using "garden" as its theme in its monthly competition.

A 70-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of sex crimes, indecent exposure and being a habitual criminal with three prior felony convictions after he allegedly exposed himself in the presence of a child at a local park, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

Kantu Inka performs in Silver City this Saturday

The historic Comstock town of Silver City, Nevada is the venue for another free, family-friendly public event on Saturday, August 13. Kantu Inka will perform music of Peru and the Andes on the town's outdoor stage, the Silver Pavilion, from 6pm-7pm.

Reno Police Chief Jason Soto will present religious statesman Rajan Zed with Chief's Commendation Award in a recognition ceremony to be held at Reno Police Headquarters on August 29.

On August 2, the Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 was out in force to provide drug awareness goodie bags to kids and cooked 2,000 hotdogs, to help support our First Responders on Sheriff’s Night Out at Mills Park. Parents and their children had a fun time visiting the various booths of local businesses who also were out in support to our first responders.

Travel delays are continuing through November on Interstate 80 (I-80) in Truckee for roadway construction activities.

As of Saturday morning, SR 89 remains closed from the junction of SR 4 to four miles south of the East junction of SR 88 at Woodfords due to flood damage.

Zampona students will hold a recital at the Dayton Senior Center this Friday

Dayton, Nevada - This summer a group of Dayton adults have been learning to play a traditional Andean instrument, the zampoña flute, with Nevada Arts Council Teaching Artists Carlos Ocampo and Julie Lozada Ocampo of Kantu Inka.

They will demonstrate what they’ve learned on their Andean pan flutes, joining Julie and Carlos for a performance at the Dayton Senior Center on Friday, August 12 at 6pm.

SILVER CITY — The next STEM + Arts event in Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties summer program for kids and their parents is Tuesday, August 9 at 10 a.m.

Jewels is a sweet, loving, beautiful girl who has been through the flames, risen from the ashes and is hoping for a loving forever home for the rest of her life. A long haired girl who loves to be brushed, she is a strong and healthy 12 years young. Since many cats live to be 20 or older, Jewels likely has some good years left to share with the right loving human companion.

Carson City’s 19th annual Jazz & Beyond Music & Art Festival, presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, offers 17 days of free entertainment and more than 30 performances.

Monday, August 8 host Brother Dan Palmer will be joined by Jimmy Rossi at Bank Saloon in Carson City. The two will chat about all of the projects and appearances in the singer/multi-instrumentalist’s near future, while they play a wide ranging set of music.

UPDATE 4:24PM: The National Weather Service has extend its Flood Advisory to 7:15 p.m. Flooding from excessive rainfall is expected. 1.8-2.2" of rainfall has fallen in the past hour. Minor flooding in low-lying/poor drainage areas and dangerous flows over low-water crossings are expected.

A Flood Advisory is in effect west of Gardnerville Ranchos including NV/CA-88 until 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms, with radar estimated accumulations of 1.5 inches. As of 2:28 p.m. there are reports of road flooding between Foothill and Centerville in Douglas County.
