Heading into Thursday, today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Across the country on January 9 each year, citizens take the lead to show support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. Thank you law enforcement. In other happenings, events are lined up throughout the day including art showings, an open invitation to a meeting of the Carson City Natives and Newcomers Club, A Prison Hill open space planning open house hosted by Parks and Rec, the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, "School of Rock, the Senior Years" at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

The U.S. Marshals Service, assisted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, arrested an El Salvador man Wednesday in Carson City who was wanted for allegedly being part of a terrorist organization.

Rene Antonio “Scrapy” Hernandez-Mejia, a Salvadorian national, was arrested in Carson City. According to Interpol, they issued a Red Notice indicating Hernandez-Mejia was wanted out of El Salvador for being part of a terrorist organization, according to a U.S. Marshals news release.

The National Rifle Association’s award-winning crime prevention and personal safety seminar, Refuse To Be A Victim will be held Sunday Jan. 26 2020 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Battle Born Ammunition & Firearms Training Room, 4630 US Highway 50 E Unit 7 Carson City.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition and annual fundraiser held at the tallest building in town, the Columbia Center in Seattle, Washington.

Firefighters from both East Fork Fire District in Douglas County and Carson City are participating in the fundraiser, and will be raising money for the fundraiser until the Stairclimb in March.

There will be a fundraiser for Carson City area locals on Jan. 21 at Pizza Factory. Gabe and Megan Torres need our help. Gabe has recently fallen ill with fungal pneumonia. His transplant medications make it difficult for him to fight everyday viruses let alone a relentless fungal infection. This is a fight they can win but it will be a long battle.

UPDATE Thursday: A band of heavier snow showers will move across western Nevada this afternoon. Areas from Reno to Fernley to Fallon and south to Carson City, Virginia City, and Yerington have the best chances of seeing a quick light accumulation. This includes Interstate 80 east of Reno, Highway 580 in Washoe Valley, and Highway 50 east of Carson City to Fallon. Accumulations will range from a dusting up to a quick half inch in these areas. We can't rule out spots of near one inch snowfall mainly on non-paved surfaces.

A vehicle pursuit that began in Washoe County ended on the I-580 freeway near Arrowhead in Carson City on Wednesday morning in which two people were taken into custody.

A 50-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Monday in the 500 block of Roop Street for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery, a sheriff's report says.

CARSON CITY — Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada and Girl Scouts of the USA launched its 2020 Girl Scout Cookie season on Tuesday, encouraging Girl Scouts across the U.S. to become entrepreneurs, earning money to power their own leadership opportunities and adventures.

A vehicle crash early Tuesday evening near Highway 50 and Sunrise Drive in East Carson City is causing traffic delays. The crash was reported at around 5:20 p.m. No serious injuries are being reported. Traffic is being diverted around the incident.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division wants to inform the public that the stolen Jeep Cherokee from Dec. 30, 2019 has been located and returned to its owner.

The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday stating the County's support for the local wild horses and the Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates, the Gardnerville community organization working to protect local wild horses.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called Tuesday afternoon to a vehicle crash in the area of I-580 near Spooner Junction.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host January's Full Moon Hike on the Wild Horse Trail this Friday, Jan. 10. Not only will the hike feature some wild horses and the "Wolf Moon" it will also be a celebration of Carson City's first Winter Trails Day.

Carson City's Bleu Cafe closed their restaurant doors in November to focus on catering and parties, but after months of public outcry from Bleu Cafe enthusiasts, Chef Roberta Davies has opened the restaurant and bar for lunch, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The restaurant is popular for their menu that touts cooking "the old fashioned way," with every item made from scratch using real ingredients. When it closed, the public let Davies know just how upset they were.

A 37-year-old man who was a suspect in numerous business thefts in Carson City and Reno was taken into custody Monday following a vehicle pursuit and foot chase that led officers to his capture and a stolen truck used in the suspected burglaries, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

UPDATE 605PM: A male suspect was taken into custody Monday evening following a pursuit that led to a stolen vehicle that was apparently used in a series of alleged theft crimes that happened between Carson City and Reno, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said. A pursuit led to a foot chase in the area of Airport and Carmine and a suspect was taken into custody. The stolen vehicle, reported as a white pickup, which had a distinctive lumber rack and tool box, was recovered. A suspect, who was hiding in a trash can, is in custody.

UPDATE 2:12PM: A suspect in theft crimes in Carson City apparently struck at a Home Depot in Reno, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office. The incidents happened on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 1 a.m. and Sunday, Jan. 5 at 2 a.m. The suspect allegedly stole tool boxes and snowblowers from the Reno store. Scroll and click on photos to enlarge.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's assistance in identifying suspects in two separate incidents involving burglary and grand larceny theft.

UPDATE: The Bureau of Land Management says it has deployed six from Nevada who are helping with firefighting efforts in Australia. Two are already there, with four on the way including a Fuels Program Manager from Carson City who is serving as a plans chief. Other personnel are from the Battle Mountain District, an assistant Superintendent for the Silver State Hotshots, a helicopter supervisor from the Elko District and an Engine Captain from Southern Nevada.

Looking at the week ahead weather wise around the Carson City region, forecasters say a couple of weak weather systems may bring some wind and a slight chance of rain or snow showers to the area Tuesday night and Thursday, but nothing to brag about until possibly into the weekend.

As we get a start on 2020, many have made it a New Year's resolution to read more books. Carson City Library has made it easier for those hoping to get a solid footing on their pledges and is offering prizes to boot as part of its 2020 Winter Reading Challenge.

Not only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.
