Suspect wanted in Carson City, Reno burglaries captured after fleeing stolen pickup
A 37-year-old man who was a suspect in numerous business thefts in Carson City and Reno was taken into custody Monday following a vehicle pursuit and foot chase that led officers to his capture and a stolen truck used in the suspected burglaries, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.
Joseph Jordan Desjardin of Reno was taken into custody in the 2300 block of Airport Road at around 5:14 p.m. He faces felony charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, burglary, eluding police and a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant out of Carson City.
According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched on a report of a stolen vehicle. Deputies met with the reporting party who said that the vehicle was stolen some time between Jan. 4 and Jan. 6, 2020.
The vehicle was described as a white 2014 Ford F250 extended cab. The reporting party said the truck matched the description of a truck that had been involved in a string of burglaries in Carson City and Reno, according to the arrest report.
Moments later Carson City Dispatch alerted officers to the 2800 block of Airport Road for a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the burglaries at Cal Ranch in Carson City and Home Depot stores in Reno.
A Carson City detective, working on the case, had advised he saw the vehicle leaving an apartment complex toward Airport Road. Deputies located the suspected white Ford F250 with a lumber rack and white tool box turn south on Airport.
The driver took off at a high rate of speed. A deputy activated his emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the truck but it continued. On Sherman Lane, the man was observed getting out of the driver's seat and ran into a backyard.
He was later located by other deputies in the backyard of an Airport Road residence near the location of the truck. He was detained by other deputies and taken to the station where he was interviewed by detectives. It was later learned the man was on probation for burglary and had a failure to appear warrant out of Carson City Justice Court. The vehicle was released back to the owner.
Earlier Monday, Carson City investigators were contacted by Home Depot Asset Prevention staff. The same suspect and suspect vehicle was identified in thefts at Reno Home Depots on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5 where snow throwers and large tool boxes were taken, according to investigators.
On Jan. 4 2020, a grand larceny was reported at Cal-Ranch at 2035 North Carson Street, where the suspect was observed looking at snow blowers at the side of Cal Ranch. The male was wearing a tan jacket and a beanie. A short time later the fencing at Cal Ranch was cut and a snow blower was taken. Surveillance cameras captured a white Ford truck being used in the theft. When deputies reviewed the surveillance video, the Ford truck was the same truck used in a previous South Carson Street burglary.
