A Christmas gift of $2,500 was presented Tuesday to Carson City's Advocates to End Domestic Violence by Greater Nevada Credit Union. The donation is to help assist victims of domestic battery in the community.

A surprise early visit from Santa Claus and his band of decked-out merry helpers brought beaming smiles and joy to dozens of capital city children and their families Christmas Eve, a tradition held for nearly 40 years by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Reserve Santa program.

Santa Claus is making his last stop today, Christmas Eve, at the V&T Railway in East Carson City. He will be inside the gift shop until 6:30 p.m. The V&T Railway is located at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Go here for directions and a map. CARSON CITY — The Carson High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, also known as NJROTC, program raised more than $3,000 for the local Angel Tree gift program. CHS NJROTC has raised money for the charity for the past three years.

Christine Lenox, Ed.D., has been appointed as director of Student Support Services for the Carson City School District. She will begin her role with the district after it is announced at the next school board meeting Jan. 14, 2020.

A 33-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested in the area of South Carson Street for misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and carless driving after riding a motorcycle unsafely, causing other vehicles on the roadway to slow and alter their direction of travel, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

Compared to the last six years, 2019 has the fewest holiday shopping days. This could create an unexpected problem: a reduction in the amount of charitable giving by holiday shoppers. If realized, this deficit could hinder the country’s largest social service provider’s ability to provide critical services to people in need in 2020. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are asking for the public’s help with identifying suspects in an ongoing vehicle burglary and credit card fraud investigation.

A driver’s license and credit card were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Gremlin Way in Lemmon Valley sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, and 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019.

Just before 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon first responders were called to a vehicle collision on the Arrowhead off-ramp of I-580.

A single vehicle was reported to have crashed, and the driver had suffered an injury.

Motorists should avoid the area if possible.

For the first time, the Brewery Arts Center has organized Carson City’s "Unsilent Night." An original composition by Phil Kline, "Unsilent Night" was written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer.

On Monday, Dec. 23, more than 130 Carson City children in transition will receive a brand new coat, a gift and a holiday brunch, thanks to the efforts of Food for Thought, a Carson City-based non-profit dedicated to feeding children, and the generosity of the Carson City Nugget Casino Hotel.

Please join us for a 7-mile round trip hike beginning at Silver Saddle ranch house, following up Dead Truck Trail, over the saddle to traverse North Loop, and back down Dead Truck Trail to our cars. There will be many splendid views of the Eastern Sierra to the west of Eagle and Carson Valleys.

Carson City's The Basil momentarily changed hands while undergoing a corporation change, but now, original owners Bob and Nan Watanar, who also serves as head chef, are back in the kitchen of the beloved Thai restaurant.

After spending thirty years creating delicious traditional Thai food on Carson Street, Bob and Nan wanted to pay forward their hard work and good fortune to those in need.

Nevada Humanities will hold a series of free informational grant meetings in Henderson, Las Vegas, Reno, and Elko in January 2020. These meetings are open to anyone interested in learning more about applying for project grant funding from Nevada Humanities.

A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for domestic battery second offense after allegedly attacking her ex.

According to the report, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Wednesday on a report of a domestic battery. Upon arrival they spoke with the reporting party who said the woman is the mother of their child, who had arrived at the home uninvited.

Today, the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation named Carson City, Nevada as one of 20 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25K in matching funds to present a free concert series at The Change Companies Stage. A 24-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Thursday morning in the 900 block of South Roop Street for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery, a sheriff's deputy report states.
