One of Western Nevada College’s largest Jump Start commencement classes to date celebrated the feat of earning their college degree before completing their high school education last week.

The National Weather Service is tracking thunderstorms that developed Wednesday afternoon along the Sierra, the larger of them moving in a northeastern direction into western Nevada.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, June 2, 2021 that there are 12 new cases and 12 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region. This brings the total number of cases to 12,861, with 12,416 recoveries and 227 deaths; 218 cases remain active.

The Nevada Department of Transportation recently approved a contract for a project this summer that will resurface approximately two miles of U.S. 50 between Asphalt Drive and Nichols Lane in eastern Carson City.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies are assisting the Nevada Department of Corrections in searching for a minimum-security inmate who walked away from a Nevada Division of Forestry fire crew near north of Sand Harbor in Washoe County.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Wednesday afternoon to a small brush fire in the area of the Stewart Conservation Camp Facility in the 1700 block of Snyder Avenue. By the time firefighters arrived, however, the fire was largely extinguished.

The Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, also known as POST, is pleased to announce 25 graduates, from 16 Nevada agencies, accepted their peace officers’ oath as POST Academy Class 2021-01.

The Carson Farmers Market is kicking off the summer of 2021 and is getting back to the sense of community and connection they once had before COVID-19.

The Farmers Market will begin this Saturday, June 5 and runs every Saturday through the last weekend in September from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Carson City Fire Department responded Sunday night to a fire at the landfill off of Highway 50 East and Flint Road.

There was a single engine airplane crash at the Minden-Tahoe Airport on Sunday afternoon. No injuries were reported and the pilot and co-pilot reportedly walked away.

Skunks are living in our yard. We haven’t seen them, but have smelled them repeatedly. My neighbor found a den near our shared property line. Skunks are actually non-aggressive beneficial creatures, if you can get past the stench.

At least one person is dead after a crash at a roundabout in Silver Springs Friday night. The Nevada Highway Patrol reported the deadly crash happened at US-50 Alt and US-95 Alt around 7:30 p.m.
