Healthy Communities' new food security effort is the RHNI

DAYTON — In 2010 the nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties began strategically working toward improving our local food system to provide food to residents in need in our communities. These efforts have included multiple school and community gardens, a farmers market, and food pantries in Yerington, Dayton and Silver Springs.

The Carson Mall will host Bingo this Saturday, May 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Admission: $20 per person includes 6 cards for 10 games.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Monday, May 24, 2021 that there are 22 new cases and 19 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region. This brings the total number of cases to 12,778, with 12,301 recoveries and 226 deaths; 251 cases remain active.

Western Nevada College celebrated graduates in the first of its three 50th commencement ceremonies on Monday at the Carson City campus. WNC will hold a second graduation in Carson City at 9 a.m. Tuesday and a third ceremony Thursday at 9 a.m. on the Fallon campus.

The Nevada System of Higher Education announced Thursday that it was adopting new CDC rules on masks that would allow those who are fully vaccinated to stop wearing masks in most circumstances on the state’s college and university campuses.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department is seeking public input from residents and visitors related to dog use at city parks, trails, and open space properties.

To gather feedback, this community survey will be available to the public via the Carson City website through June 10th.

The survey will help guide the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department on potential municipal code updates and other rules and regulations that may be considered related to dog use.

A 48-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday morning for multiple traffic-related crimes as well as possession of a methamphetamine pipe.

According to the arrest report, deputies were on patrol when they conducted a registration check on a VW car bearing an Arizona license plate, which returned as belonging to an Acura.

Nevada added back 8,400 jobs in April as the state continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an economic report released Thursday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Carson City, for example, has recovered 3,000 jobs since April 2020 and saw an increase of 100 jobs since March, statistics show.
