Campagni Cares donates to Northern Nevada center for autistic students
With nominations from the public pouring in, selecting the Campagni Cares recipient of the month has become an increasingly difficult decision. The Campagni Cares program began at the start of 2021 when local car dealer, Carson City Toyota, began looking for a new way to mix up traditional giving.
“We have the pleasure of working with so many great nonprofits and organizations year after year, but for 2021, we wanted to step it up,” said Jeff Campagni, General Manager of Carson City Toyota. “We decided having the community nominate their favorite charities would be interesting, but we weren’t sure what to expect since it was a new premise.”
The community has certainly taken to the idea: in the 5 months of the program, there has been over 130 unique nonprofits nominated by nearly 600 different people.
“Each month the choice becomes increasingly difficult as we are learning so much about our community. However, when we read the nominations for Newton Learning Center, we knew we wanted to select them.”
The Newton Learning Center, located in Reno but serving Northern Nevada, provides programing specifically tailored for the educational advancement of students with Asperger syndrome symptoms and students on the upper end of the autism spectrum, also referred to as high-functioning autism.
The nominations from the community were pretty powerful, including many of the family members of Newton’s students.
“For the first time, my son and I are both treated with respect in regard to his education. No child should be denied that,” said parent Lydia Taylor. Another nomination from Sarabeth Metzger read, “They have amazing teachers who help children with Autism succeed. If it weren’t for them, many children with autism would be lost and not seeing their true potential.”
“Knowing we are making an impact here in our community and helping families that thought they were alone with no other options has been the best and most important change we have made during our time here in Northern Nevada,” says School Director, Rebecca “RJ” Larrieu. Being that option for families and watching our students achieve simple goals they never thought they could do is amazing to watch.”
Donations are used to help offset the cost of tuition for families of children to attend the center. If you’d like to donate to Newton Learning Center or to learn more about their programs and offerings, please visit https://www.secondstart.org/.
Don’t forget, each and every month throughout 2021, the group at Carson City Toyota will select a nominated charity to donate money to and feature in a community spotlight.
