The ravaging toll of wildfires have caused thousands of residences and families in Lake Tahoe communities to evacuate their homes and be displaced to shelters throughout northern Nevada. The Carson City School District is inviting all evacuated families in Carson City with school-aged children to enroll their students through the McKinney-Vento Students in Transition program.

A non-injury accident was reported just before 11 a.m. on Friday morning in the area of South Carson and Stewart.

Two vehicles are involved and are currently blocking traffic.

Motorists should seek alternate routes.

Overall activity on the Caldor Fire decreased overnight due to moderate humidity recovery and a decrease in winds. Firefighters took advantage of these favorable conditions to build more control line and work direct along the northern edge of the fire.

Spot fires from the wind event two days ago continue to be found and firefighters engaged when safe to do so. Minimal fire growth occurred in the Kirkwood area. Today crews will work to tie in more control line and mop up.

UPDATE 7:06 p.m.: A suicidal male subject jumped from the overpass off of North Carson Street and I-580 on Thursday evening. A Care Flight air ambulance was ordered but was reportedly around 20 minutes away. Carson City Fire Department took the person via ambulance to the hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Access to the I-580 freeway near North Carson Street was closed Thursday evening because of a suicidal person on the overpass.

Three years after the Douglas County Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Hotline was created, the program has resulted in an investigation leading to the indictment of a former Douglas County employee for two counts of theft.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors voted Thursday to accept a COVID-19 Health Equity grant from the CDC in the amount of $767,015.77 through June 30, 2024.

A vehicle pursuit ended with the suspect arrested early Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of College Parkway and Retail Drive in Carson City. A sheriff's deputy ended the pursuit by purposely hitting the suspect's vehicle, forcing him to crash.

With the Caldor Fire forcing the evacuation of thousands from South Lake Tahoe, Friends of the Carson City Library is providing some comfort for those taking shelter. Volunteers donated books to the shelters on Tuesday, including those at the Carson City Community Center.

The Caldor Fire advancing into the South Lake Tahoe area grew to more than 200,000 acres overnight Tuesday into Wednesday as gusty winds pushed the fire in directions that now threaten lower Carson Valley residents along the Foothill Road corridor in Douglas County, Nev., as well as the Kirkwood area in Alpine County, Calif.

Douglas County is asking the following communities to be on the alert and start preparing for potential evacuations. Evacuations have not been ordered for the following areas at this time; however, there is potential for evacuation warnings to heighten to evacuation orders in the near future. Due to the spread of the Caldor Fire into the south Tahoe area, the following Evacuation Orders were made for Douglas County, Nevada, excluding the Stateline Casinos which are currently housing emergency personnel and operations.

As our neighbors to the west continue to evacuate due to the Caldor Fire, the Carson City community and its partners have risen to the challenge, offering evacuees shelter, food, animal care and more.

A 40-year-old woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of furnishing a controlled substance to a state prisoner, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team booking report.

The Caldor Fire burning in El Dorado County is now 186,568 acres in size and 15 percent contained. Firefighters had a battle on some sides of the fire while having successes on others.

Monday's expected southwestern wind pattern and dry fuels caused an increase in fire behavior located in the northeastern and eastern areas of the fire.

The Carson City Community Center and the Fuji Park Fairgrounds are full. Evacuees from the #CaldorFire should proceed to Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Doors open at 9 p.m.

The main evacuation shelter at the Carson City Community Center is now open as of late Monday afternoon, as is the secondary evacuation site for those with large and small animals at Fuji Park, according to Carson City's Emergency Manager.
