Foundation awards $1M to organizations helping to rescue animals affected by Caldor Fire
The Dave and Cheryl Duffield Foundation announced Wednesday they have awarded $1 million to 29 organizations helping to rescue, rehabilitate and treat animals affected by the Caldor Fire. These efforts include assisting domestic animals, livestock and wildlife who have been injured and, or displaced during this event.
The Caldor Fire, which started on August 14, is impacting both California and Nevada communities and, to date, has burned more than 200,000 acres, including areas within the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation worked to determine which agencies are and have been “on the ground” helping to rescue and treat animals affected by the fire as well as local animal shelters and rescues who have sent staffing for temporary shelters, transported animals, and offered to take in animals at their shelters.
“Thanks to the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation for their support and generosity to help the many animals affected by the Caldor Fire,” said Nathan Barcklay, Assistant Chief, Cal Fire, Amador-El Dorado Unit. “We are so grateful for their assistance.”
Some of the 29 grant recipients (many of whom are 100 percent volunteer-run and receive no funding from their local County or state) include North Valley Animal Disaster Group (Chico, CA), Hold Your Horses Livestock Emergency Evacuation Response Team (Contra, Costa, CA), North Bay Animal Services (Petaluma, CA), California Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps (Sacramento, CA), El Dorado Search and Rescue (Placerville, CA), Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (South Lake Tahoe, CA), The Wildlife Disaster Network (Davis, CA) and South County Animal Response Team (Jackson, CA). Some of the animal shelters offering support include Sacramento SPCA (Sacramento, CA), SPCA of Northern Nevada (Reno, NV), and Nevada Humane Society (Reno, NV).
“We are honored to be able to support the efforts of these outstanding organizations who are doing everything they can to help animals being affected by the Caldor Fire,” said Jerleen Bryant, Executive Director of the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation. “The Duffields are long-time benefactors of animal causes, and they appreciate the hard work and efforts to help both animals and people in need during this difficult time.”
