UPDATE: The Caldor Fire has burned 53,772 acres as of Wednesday morning with no containment, according to the latest from InciWeb.

A Cal Fire report Wednesday said the Caldor Fire experienced unprecedented fire behavior and growth overnight due to extremely dry fuels pushed by the southwest winds. Multiple evacuation orders and warnings are in place.

Dense smoke that has settled in throughout Carson City, the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding communities is coming from the Caldor Fire burning in El Dorado County, according to a National Weather Service forecaster.

The Caldor Fire burning southwest of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County south of Pollock Pines has ballooned to 6,500 acres. There is no containment. The fire Is burning In the steep Middle Fork Cosumnes River Canyon East of the Omo Ranch area, four miles south of Grizzly Flats and is sending smoke and ash into the Lake Tahoe Basin and northern and western Nevada.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting will take place Thursday, Aug. 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit is hosting an introductory Barks & Bandages event intended to help prepare dog owners for pet emergencies.

The topics will include recognizing symptoms of internal bleeding, heatstroke, toxin ingestion, allergic reactions, rattlesnake bites, and gastric dilatation-volvulus or “bloat.” The fundamental purpose of the event is to train dog owners on what to do or not to do during a pet emergency.

Lyon County Republican Central Committee hosts monthly meetings. Meetings of the LCRCC are held on the first Saturday of each month except when changes are made to accommodate holidays or other scheduling conflicts.

Carson City Sheriff's Office Deputy Carl Howell, a nine-year veteran of the Carson City Sheriff's Office and a U.S. Marine veteran, was killed in the line of duty on this day, Aug. 15, 2015. He was 35 years old.

UPDATE 3:37 p.m.: According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, the victim declined medical attention and was only a slight injury from what investigators are now suspecting was an airsoft gun.

The sheriff's office is still conducting interviews at and around the scene.

UPDATE 1:33 p.m.: Deputies are attempting to locate a suspect. It is possible the shot came from an air rifle. No description at this time.

Hello fellow anglers, I have taken a journey to see the devastation in Alpine County, to view where the fire went, and to see how amazing it was that the firefighters were able to save many structures that were in the fires direct path.

Words can not express how grateful we are to all those involved in protecting the community.

Driving down highway 89 towards Markleeville, we could see how the fire raged through Turtle Rock campground and across the highway and up to Summit Lake and over the hill to Indian Creek Reservoir.
